NETGEAR does not offer any offcial drivers for the adapter to work on Ubuntu as they dont support Linux OS. However, you may try third party drivers to install the adapter on Ubuntu. Try the below link:
Dear Friend ,
Kindly check with the driver in this site and revert back.Kindly follow the below steps:
1. Remove any ath_pci driver from the RESTRICTED DRIVERS MANAGER 2. Make sure that you have build-essential package installed, if not, fire up a terminal and type in sudo apt-get install build-essential 3. Navigate your way in Terminal to the directory where you downloaded the archive for the driver 4. Type these to decompress the archive tar xfz madwifi-ng-r2756+ar5007.tar.gz and cd madwifi-ng-r2756+ar5007 5. Type make to compile 6. Type sudo make install to install the driver 7. Type sudo modprobe ath_pci to insert the driver as a kernel module 8. Restart by typing sudo reboot 9. If all goes well, after you restarted, you will find wireless networks in your Network Manager
Kindly with the below url and download the file name the Wireless LAN Atheros Wireless Lan Driver v18.104.22.168.zip 22.214.171.124
Not all devices are supported under linux. Especially when it comes to wireless devices. I have searched several suse forums and have not yet found anyone who has gotten the 8313 to work. Your best bet if using linux and needing wifi connectivity is to use either a prism chipset device or atheros chipset device. Netgear makes several devices that work under linux.
To make sure the device really is not working try going to a console and type as root "iwconfig -a" if nothing shows your device is for sure not installed.
Ubuntu is up to 8.04. They made a lot of improvements to the network interface. You should upgrade. Go to "system-administration-software sources-" click on the updates tab and then select normal updates under release upgrade in the updates tab. Ubuntu will then tell you that you have updates. State the update manager and click on the option to upgrade to the next version up. If you aren't sure how to do this write me back and I will help you.
