It is possible the refrigerator is low on Freon. You will
need to remove the back panel inside the rear of freezer to examine the
evaporator coils. If only a few rows have frost it will be time to replace the
refrigerator. If the control panel in the freezer dispenser are coming on and
off there may be a bad connection in the plug under the top left door hinge
cover. Check that the plug is tight. Let me know what you see first behind the
freezer wall, Thanks Sea Breeze
First check that all the cooling tubes are open between the freezer to refrigerator. If one plugs up, then all the cold is focused on one spot in the refrigerator. If that isn't the problem, then replace the refrigerator thermostat.
Unplug the refrigerator and then plug back in. Using multimeter check between J3-1 and J3-4. Must be done within 10 seconds of starting. You should have 6 VDC. If you do replace damper, if not replace motherboard.
I don't think the darkness is related to the fridge not being cool.
The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper)
between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through
it.There is a flap you adjust with the
fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the
fridge temp OR ..
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer
are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of
cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.
check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In
most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board.
If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control. How to check
Is this a self defrost model? Frost inside the freezer could be an air leak around the door gasket. Remove the back panel in the freezer and completely defrost the coils. Is the fan running in the freezer. That will make the frig not be cool. With the door closed peek in the gasket to make sure the light is shutting off, this will warm a frig also. Eric
Our new 10 day old top frig/bottom freezer stopped freezing, then the top refrigerator stopped cooling, but the light was working and you could hear some motor running and an occasional "clicking" sound. One internet blogger adsvised unpluging the appliance for 1/2 hour. Another advised 2 hours. Then plug in the appliance and see if it started cooling/freezing again. Our experience = nothing. We called the repair folk and the new frig/freezer had a failed compressor and a broken timer!! We were not thrilled. Suprisingly the store we bought the ap[pliance from gave us a $50 gift card to compensate for the lost food. They didn't have to do that - so ask for it; can't hurt.
