Question about Nikon D50 Digital Camera

Memory Card Error

Hello, Major dilema for someone that uses his Nikon D50 everyday. I woon't rest until this is solved as I am sure most photographers can relate to. I have 2 memory cards and both are giving me an error message that says "Card cannot be used". Funny thing is, I just used the cards recently and they were fine. I also checked to see if the locks were engaged and they aren't. In order to troubleshoot I had my wife use both of my cards in her camera and they worked fine. I also tried to do a quick reformat on them on the laptop and I just can't get them to work. I am hoping I don't have a problem with my camera.

    I have the same problem.
My camera will not let me do anything.
My card is formatted and the computer can see the pics on it but I still get a card error.
This happened out of the blue with no warning.

When I try to format the card it says, "Card cannot be used."

You have to format them in your camera for them to work. Formatting in other devices makes them useless. Stupid, but that's how it goes.
So, put a card in your camera, and find a format option in Your camera's menu. Everything will be fine after that.

And remember, any camera must first format the card for its own specifications before it can be used.

SOURCE: When I view my photographs

You're looking at the blown-out highlights. These are areas where you've lost all detail. Press up/down on the multiselector to change the view. Better yet, reduce the exposure to reduce/eliminate them.

Hi - I have a Nikon D50 and am using a Panasonic 1GB memory card -- that I have used for several years. Just recently the carmera only allows 12 pictures on this memory card & I'm not sure what is...

Thast's a bit odd, Elise.
A couple of things to check:
1. Is the lock switch in the fully UP position? It is a little slide switch on the side opposite the cut-off corner. Slide it right down then back up again .
2. Does the card have old images, music or other data stored on it? It will hold up to 400 5mb images but it does, like all memory cards, have finite capacity.
3. Have you tried formatting the card in camera?

What does ''CHA'' mean on my Nikon D50 I can't seem to take any photo's

You haven't provided enough details to be sure of the problem, but I suspect you have either bought a new memory card that is either the wrong type or too large for that camera. If it is still the original memory card that you first used with your camera, try reformating the card.

Error message r07 on D80

Hi,

his isn't an error message. R04 or R07 or R[any number] refers to the number of shots you can take before you're camera's internal memory buffer is full.

As you're taking pictures, you're camera is writing to your memory card. When you are taking burst photographs, all the other photos you've just taken are "waiting in line" to get written to your card. If your buffer is full, the camera will not let you take another shot until it's finished writing the photo to the card.

Your camera's ability to write to the memory card is only as fast as the memory card itself as well as the quality of the photos (RAW vs. JPEG).

Sports photographers usually shoot in JPEG because they are taking a lot of shots relatively quickly and if their camera freezes then they can lose a shot.

the R means remaining, so R03 three shots remaining/left before the buffer is full.
Switching off the NR high iso and long exposure. buying a 166x card or faster will help but you won't see it on the counter.
If you do the above and switch to jpeg only it goes up.
you won't do this but, the above and quality to basic and small gives R51.
But if you shoot raw its R06 at best.

Any further help, let me know.

I have a Nikon D50 with an error message "CHA"

This error indicates the following:
This card cannot be used (CHR) blinks.
Problem(s)
Error accessing memory card
Unable to create a new folder (on card)
Card has not been formatted for use on D70

Try another card
Format the card using your D70 (all images will be erased)
Check the card for visible damage or poor contacts.

You may have inserted a memory card that was been used in a different camera or the formatting process did not complete successfully.
I hope this helps.

Hello, Many times when someone fools with a memory card and the camera is on, it sort of backfires when the camera is trying to read or write data to the memory card. Error 10 might be attached to a fault in the memory card or system error. Try doing this first: remove you memory card when the camera is off. Remove you batteries so it can reset. Leave the batteries out for 30 seconds then replace them. Use a brand new SD memory card and then turn on camera. Go to menu and format the new memory card and see if this helps. Good luck.

Error of (HR) on Nikon D50

The manual for the D50 shows that this error is about the memory card, and could be one of the following things:
  • that the memory card has the write-protect on. There is a little switch on the card that does this.
  • that some of the files(photos) on the card need to be removed. To keep them any photos, copy them onto your computer, then delete them off the card.
  • the card needs to be formatted. Be sure to copy any photos you want to keep onto your computer before doing this, as formatting will erase all photos off the card.
  • memory card could just be bad and needs to be replaced.
Hope this helps - good luck.
