Paint chip in microwave

I need to know if I can use rustoleum appliance touch-up paint to repair the spot where the paint is rubbed off of the inside of my microwave. The paint says it's flamable and I need to know if it is safe to use it on the inside.

SOURCE: rust under turntable of microwave can i paint it?

If the cavity metal of the oven is chipped or charred, it will have to be sanded smooth and clean and dried thoroughly.

Then you can apply some high-temperature appliance paint, available from places like Wal-Mart, Lowe's or Builder's Square.

SOURCE: peeling paint

You need to thoroughly clean it, then sand it smooth to removew all the loose paint.

Once it's squeaky clean and dry, you can apply high-temperature appliance paint, which is available in brush-on or spray-on form at big box stores like Wal-Mart, home improvement centers like Lowe's and appliance parts stores.

If it's allowed to stay that way, it can arc, which will greatly accelerate the charring & rusting processes.

Waveguide Cover

If the microwave is sparking or arcing the waveguide cover might be damaged and shorting out. Try removing the waveguide cover and see if the problem goes away. If there are any damaged spots in the microwave ceiling or sidewalls, repair them and paint them with microwave oven paint. Replace the waveguide cover if it is burnt or if it will not stay in place.

I have a whirlpool microwave which has a small burn mark ( a chip of the front of the inside of the microwave) i was wondering is it still safe to use? would radiation be leaking through if it isn't...

Yes it is safe to use. The microwaves are about the diameter of a pencil, so it takes a pretty big gap to create problems. The chip can be repaired using a fine sandpaper (wet/dry type) and then painting with a microwave touch up paint available at any appliance repair shop. The paint is pricey, so don't be surprised, but it is made just for microwaves.

Hope this helps you.

The microwave oven coating is peeling and exposing rust spots. what can I do to fix this? Do I need a professional repair person?

No this is something you can repair yourself. Take sandpaper and gently rub rust spots until smooth. Then you need to get ceramic touch-up paint and repaint rust spots.

The enamel is wearing off where the back side meets the base on the inside of the oven. No sparks are flying but is this repairable? Emerson MW8775W Microwave Oven

Small areas inside the cavity can be repaired. The bare spot must be very smooth. You can sand it down if needed and then repaint. There is a m/w cavity paint sold in a spray can, but I've had really good luck using regular appliance touchup paint. Just be sure the spot is very smooth when you finish. Use several thin layers of paint instead of one thick layer and you should be ok.

Chipping/peeling rusting paint in interior under carousel

Hi,

Scratches and bare spots are fairly common, but should be addressed as soon as they arise so the corrosion will not spread and arcing does not occur.

Unplug the power cord and remove the turntable and the support that is under the turntable. Clean the surface of the support wheels or any other part that rubs on the oven cavity.

Take some mild sanding cloth or scotchbright and clean the bare and rusted areas in the microwave. Use appliance touch up paint to re-coat the surface. You can find the touch up at most anywhere that sells appliances, it comes in a plastic bottle similar in appearance to fingernail polish, yes it does have a brush inside.

Let it dry per the instructions on the bottle or 24 hours if not specified.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to help.

Go to any hardware or home repair center and look for appliance touch up paint in the color you require. Follow the package instructions and allow the paint to dry for the appropriate time. That should do the trick. If my information has been helpful, please rate my service. Thanks for using FixYa.com
