FX 5900 Ultra Problems

By Melissa - usenet poster

Hi All,

I just built a new machine. P4 2.8 800 FSB, P4C800-E deluxe Asus
MB, 1 Gig of Kingston 3200 DDR 400Mhz, Plextor 8x DVD Burner, Turtle
Beach Santa Cruz SC, and a Gainward FX 5900 Ultra Golden Sample VIVO
card. My problem is with the 5900 installed the computer starts to
post and the screen shows orange vertical stripes, goes to the Asus
splash screen showing thin vertical lines and then stops booting. I
have a Antec sl400 power supply thats brand new. Before I send the
card back I thought I'd check with you guy's and see if anyone else
has run into that problem before I ship the card back. Thanks in
advance.

ntl.victim,

I called Mwave and got an rma number. I think I'll try changing
the power supply out before I go to the trouble of sending it back.
Thanks for the reply.

Sounds like the Ram on the FX is all messed up, best advice RMA it and get a
new board

Oh and I highly doubt using 5X.XX series drivers can have any effect on a
card during the initial boot up since windows hasn't begun loading yet and
the drivers themselves do not change any of the cards BIOS settings
