Replace the flapper. They get hard overtime and do not seal. Make sure that their is some slack in the linkage. If this does not fix the problem, take the tank off and replace the whole flapper assembly including the fill tube, with a whole new unit.
Some brands of flappers must be replaced by the same brand. as the center to cernter distance is not the same on all of them.

Remove old flapper, go to local hardware store and get a replacement for about $4.
do not forget to turn water off and flush it to clear the tank first. clean the fapper seat too.

Water runs in the toilet off and on continually?

Either the bottom outlet washer or the inlet valve washer needs replacing. It is a common condition, and if unsure, call a handyman in. An expensive plumber should not be needed.

Caroma toilets repair

have to know whether you mean water is flowing into the bowl?, or "over-filling" the tank? Could either be a bad flapper(More common), or the "fill-valve" is leaking.

Fix a running toilet

Faulty flapper sealing. After a flush, the flapper does not seat correctly or completely allowing water to run into the bowl.

My toilet keeps running. I tried to adjust the float with a phillips but that did not work. There is slight leaking into the chamber over the top.

If there is a continual leak in to the toilet bowl you will likely need to replace the flush valve or the toilet flapper.

As a first step try try cleaning the sealing surface of the flush valve to se if the flapper will seat and make a seal.

If this does not work and the flapper is visibly detioriated and breaking down shut off the water supply, remove the toilet flapper and visit your local plumbing supply store to purchase a suitable replacement. Install the new flapper, turn on water supply.

These illustrated instruictions may also assist:

Although less likely, if the sealing surface of the flush valve is damaged or detioriated proceed with replacement of the flush valve. Again turn off water supply and follow the instructions set out here:

http://www.danco.com/HowTo/How-To-Replace-a-Flush-Valve

If there is not a leak in to the toilet bowl and the water flow does not shut off completely, then water is flowing through the fill valve and the overflow pipe and you may need to adjust the float and float rod to allow clsoure of the fill valve. See here:

Yes my toilets runs for a couple of seconds every hour or so after the initially flush so whats the problem

One of two things are going on here and it could be a combination of bough. The fill valve is not completely turning off or most likely the flush valve flapper has or is going bad and needs to be replaced. I'm betting on the flapper being the problem.

These video well help.

I have a new American Standard Cadet 3 that was just installed. After flushing, the water fills into the bowl. However, after several minutes, the water in the bowl slowly drains away and is nearly gone....

Sorry for problem with new toilet.
You say water is leaking out of the bowl?

Toilets have 2 parts:
1) Tank: where water is stored for the flush and is sealed with a flapper.
2) Bowl: where water flushes down.

a) If tank is leaking water, then flapper is suspect. Replace flapper and see if that works.
Lift up flapper and run finger around rim to see if there is a rough spot that would indicate flush valve is defective, and needs replacement.
See typical flush valve

b) If bowl is leaking, that is very unusual and would indicate a crack in the porcelain.

If installer sold you the toilet, it is his responsibility to make good on product.
All products are guarantee against workmanship flaws.

Toilet keeps filling tank every 10 minutes doesnt sound like its leaking no water around toilet or on floor still flushes and opertes..just water trickles on every 10 minutes or so to top up

If there is no water on the floor then the water is leaking down the main tank drain. Take off the tank lid, turn off the water supply to the toilet. Fllush as much water out as you can. Look at the main drain, sometimes if the flapper valve is connected with a chain, the chain can get caught between the flapper valve and the drain hole, the flapper valve is pliable so it tries to seal around the obstruction but can't always do it. Make sure there is obstruction, that the flapper valve is not out of shape or old and non-pliable and that it lines up with the drain hole and doesn't get "hung up" on anything.

Toilet Bowl Water Level Slowly Drops

Check the fill tube in your toilet one easy way to see if it's leaking is get food coloring and pour in your tank to color the water this makes it easier to see and squeeze the tube in the tank when it's full if you see the colored water running down the middle of it you have a winner! if not you can look around for it sometimes the plastic under the flapper gets cracked too

Replaced toilet fill valve - now bowl water level a bit lower

First off,If the air vent was clogged the toilet would back up and overflow and when it did flush, it would make a gurgling sound.
secondly the water level in the bowl is not important as long as it covers the opening,The water is only there to keep out sewer gases so they don't enter your home and the shape of the trap will always maintain the proper amount of water needed to prevent this.
The previous water level may have been due to a partial clog that has since been removed.

Flush problem with toto toilet

If your hooked to city water it can be cause of the high water pressure comes across and keeps flapper from seating rite. Take a empty plastic bottle, cut it in half long ways. flush toilet then place plastic bottle between fill valve and flapper, trying to devert water away from where flapper seats. good luck.
