Some of the iBook G4 optical drives are very sensitive. The best way to test if it is still working is to use the System Disks that comes with every Mac.
Regarding the Flash disk, it may be that your iBook is using USB 1.1 protocol, while your Flash is using USB 2.0. You can check what type of USB your iBook has in the System Profiler. If it is 1.1, then you are out of luck. If its USB 2.0, then you have a faulty logic board.
Either way, not good news for you. Sorry.

SOURCE: Disc drive ejects blank discs...plays dvds

Hi Again,

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Work!

You need to let me know what type of PowerBook G4 it is as the instructions for each are different. However, what I will do is give you the links to the appropriate sites and some instructions for them:

  1. First you need to reset the Power Management Unit (PMU). To do this refer to THIS page. A little way down is a heading 'PowerBook and iBook models covered in this document'. Select the model listed in blue below this which will take you lower down the page to the instructions for your model.
  2. After restarting try your drive again. If it doesn't work, try a dvd drive cleaning disc.
  3. If it still doesn't work your drive is Kaput! If you're near Kent in the UK then I can help you out. If not find a local Apple Specialist who can replace the drive for you.
All the best

SOURCE: PowerBook G4 won't eject cd by any means found on apple support

If you can hear that it's trying, it might be getting pinched while trying to eject, especially if something pressed down on the case at that spot. Try gently widening the opening with a flat head screwdriver while you are ejecting the CD. just put the driver in and twist a bit to widen the slot. Also, check to make sure that the fuzzy stuff that brushes off the disk when you insert it - and keeps out dust - hasn't been damaged. If it is partially missing, the missing part may be inside, keeping the CD from ejecting.

I put a CD into the CD drive and it can't be ejected

A few ways of doing this

restart mac and press down the trackpad after you hear the startup noise

if that does not work try opening up disk utility and click on the icon of your disk under the left hand column then go up to eject button and click eject

or open up terminal found in the utilities folder within your applications folder and then type in
drutil tray eject and then press return

Finally what to do is try pick up your macbook tilt the macbook to the one side and ise the eject key and hopefully the effect of gravity will allow the DVD to fall out.

One other way to do it which I have used recently but IT CAN BREAK THE DVD DRIVE, so only use it as a last resort. Get a thin piece of plastic and put a piece of double sided tape on it then with the macbook switched off insert the piece of plastic with the tape facing down in relation to the keyboard. Put it in about half an inch and you may be able to drag the dvd out.

Hope this helps.

I have a cd stuck in my laptop computer. It's a iBook G4. The cd tray doesn't come out. there is a mechanism that helps to push the cd out. I dont know the best way to get it out. Please help!! E

Option 1:
If you restart the computer and just after it restarts if you hold down the eject key on the keyboard it should eject the disc, if not I would check to see if there is a tiny hole on the disc drive that you can stick a paper clip in - not sure if the ibook will have it but worth while checking.

Option 2:
1. Restart the computer.
2. Immediately after the startup sound, press and hold the key
combination Command-Option-O-F.
Note: The Command key has the Apple icon on it.
3. Release the keys when you see a white screen that says "Welcome to
Open Firmware."
4. At the prompt, type: eject cd
5. Press Return, then wait a few seconds. The disc drive should eject any disc that is present, and "ok" appears behind your command when the
action is complete.
6. Type: mac-boot
7. Press Return.

Dvd stuck in ibook g4 disc drive

Here's possibility 1: from the apple forums" We had a repair come in at work with excactly the same issue, I managed to correct the issue by correcting the CD-Drive connection to the logic board, the customer had a very VERY big smile on his face once I had fixed. I felt so happy after this repair, unfortunatly, it earned our AASP no money tho. But it made me happy to see a smile I caused.
Possibility 2: firmware command:To eject a disc with Open Firmware commands, follow these steps:
1. Restart the computer .
The disc drive should eject
any disc that is present, and "ok" appears behind your command when the
action is complete.
6. Type: mac-boot
7. Press Return.

Possiblity 3

If you can't get the CD to eject normally, reboot and hold the Option key. You'll see a startup drive select window. When the cursor changes to an arrow, (be patient, it may take a minute or two) then press your eject key, the CD will eject. You can also try holding the mouse/trackpad button down during a restart.

Apple Mac ibook G4 14'' [Mid 2005] 1.42 GHz. CD/DVD drive problem This ibooks Disc drive is not working. It does not accept a disc. I can put them into the slot to about 1/3 of the disc but will not go in...

If you can only get the disk in that short way, I think you have another disk or item already inserted. Press the key that looks like a triangle above a parallel line while the computer is turned on. Also, check your desktop for an icon that looks like a cd disc. If you find one, drag it to your trash can. This will eject a **** if one is inserted.

Cd stuck in drive

you can eject manually. There's a very small hole on the front of your CD drive. Get something like a needle. put the needle inside that hole and push. Your CD should pop out.
