Remove jammed paper

I had the same problem.
I found that the gears driving the printhead cleaning mechanism was jammed.

To solve this, I removed the top cover (6 screws and a clip centre bottom, back).
Please take care when working on the Fax machine as there are high voltages present.
It is best to always remove the power sorce when working on electronic equipment.
I removed the cleaning mechanism (2 screws)(you have to remove the circuit board next to it to get to the one screw). I did not disconnect the ribbon cable from the circuit board, only the two smaller cables.

Once removed, I gently tried to rotate the cleaning mechanism by turning the plastic gears. It should rotate freely by 360 degrees. If it sticks at all, there is most probably some dirt stuck to one of the gears. Using a magnifying glass, carefully inspect the gears for dirt and gently remove the dirt with something thin and pointy like a bag needle. Be sure to check that the gears are still adequately covered in grease afterwards.

Reassemble and test before fitting the top cover.
I do not know why they set the fax up to give a paper jam when this item jams but this was the problem on my fax.

Good luck and I hope this solves your problem.
Regards,
Gary

Stuck Drum

When you open the front door, there should be a sliding lever attached to the door on the left side. This lever should pull out when you open the door. If it does not due to becoming detached, you should pull it out by hand. Now you should be able to remove the drum. Check the door and see why the lever became detached. You should be able to remove the door and pick up a new one at your local Broother service centre. One other thing to note, sometimes people will use generic toner cartridges. I have seen these toners get jammed up and break the gears inside the machine. If this is the case, you will most likely have to bring it in to a service centre.

Fax film pulls through with copies

timing is usually associated with a motor, try and see if the motor can be dismanteld, clean with alcohol and put oil on finger to lube inside.

If not then motor needs to be changed.

Gear making a grinding noise

Not too good news I'm afraid. It sound like the fuser gear has failed. Generally the fuser unit (hot section or hot rollers in the back) need to be replaced. Usually when the gear has worn or failed the fuser rollers are also worn and need to be replaced. The gear can be replaced seperately but is a very risky operation and usually results in parts in the fuser unit falling appart due to age and wear, so it is best done as a unit. If possible do not run the machine as it can cause damage to gears around the fuser unit. The best option is to find out how much a fuser unit and labour to fit would be at your local service centre.
