If the Drive detects the CD and the icon appears in the My Computer window, try this to view the CD contents
* Download ISO Buster and try to open the CD by this software

This happens when the Laser Lens/Head of the drive become weak.... if the above trick not fixes the problem, try replacing the drive lens
NB: Try this link to download ISO Buster http://www.download.com/1770-20_4-0.html?query=iso+buster&tag=srch&searchtype=downloads&filterName=platform%3DWindows&filter=platform%3DWindows

Cd not recognized

That only means that the cd/dvdrom is already failing. if this happens to not 1 cd/dvd, then its failing. but if it only happens to 1 particular cd, then that means that the cd might have the problem, try another computer to read the contents of that cd, and try to transfer the data to a flash drive.
And its not visible on your BIOS.

My dell xps one will not boot because of a disk read error problem, what can i do?

If you can boot from your Resource CD, then your hard drive is defective or it's OS (Operating System software) is corrupt and needs to reloaded. You should have a CD that came with your computer called "Resource CD" or "System Tools". Under contents of CD look for "Diagnostics". You can boot from this CD by powering on computer and selecting key to reach the Boot Menu. Inset CD and boot from CD/DVD drive.

It means the CD is not working... Just check with that CD. Write some data in the CD. After writing them put that CD inside and check whether the content is there or not...

Our hp pavilion 4535 will not read discs

I'm thinking of a couple of solutions:
  1. Auto run as turned off, navigate to your drives (usually in the My Computer icon) and check for your disc drive (usually Drive D:). If it is showing a disc then you can right-click and open to see the contents or double click for an auto-play.
  2. If you open up the drives and don't see a CD ROM drive then it might have gotten dropped some how. In this case you will want to go to the device manager and check to see if the CD ROM drive is listed and if it needs some fixing.

CD-Rom

This happens when you make too many sessions on your disk.

Your computer might not be able to read all the sessions of your disk.

Try to copy your data from a computer which reads it and then burn the thing in your disk after fully erasing it if its rewritable.
