How to connect two computers using a crossover cable.

You can use a crossover cable to share files and folders between the two computers.

A crossover cable looks exactly the same as any ethernet cable, but its internal wiring is reversed respect to the regular cables used to connect computers to routers or switches.Crossover cables have the 1st and 3rd wires (counting from left to right) crossed, and the 2nd and 6th wires crossed, thay can be recognised because the word Crossover is printed on top of the cable.

Before proceeding ensure that the cable you are using is a crossover. Crossover wiring isdifferent. By using an ordinary ethernet cable you will not be able to extablish a directconnection between computers.

To use the crossover you will need to disconnect any other cable connection to computer ethernet cards. Naturally both computers must have a wired network adapter installed .

After connecting the crossover, you will need to configure the network connection.

Turn off both computers, connect the crossover (cat5 or cat6) cable, and turn back on computers.

Ensure that all firewallare turned off, and on Vista answer yes to all requests of authorization for the new network.

On both computers go to system properties, and ensure that the two computers have the same workgroup.

Second step is going to Sharing and Security, in system properties, and sharing the files and folder that you want to transfer.

Once the folders are shared you will see in My computer (Computer on Vista) the folder shared from the other computer. Simply copy and paste the files.

You may be asked to restart computer after each step.

If after sharing files and folder you want to share Internet connection, then you will have to assign two IP addresses that are in the same range to the two connected computers.
An IP address is a series of numbers from 1 to 256, in the format XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX . The two IP addresses must share the first three numbers to share the internet connection. In the real case, you can set the IP adresses to and

How can i recover deleted recordings?

Yes, the most effective way to recover your files from the hard disc is to use a data recovery software. But do not rely on freeware. It's highly possible that freeware will mess up your computer with virus and spyware. What's more, whether it recovers your files intact(some recover the files but can't open them) or not is not guaranteed.
So, I think you can try this one that I have used to get the files back from pen drive.

Hoiw do you upload you pictures off your phone to your computer

Hi there !

1. First you need to install the PC suite software for your mobile (e.g. Nokia) to your computer. After installing, click the pc suite icon and connect your mobile phone using a usb data cable. Then you are ready to transfer data from your mobile to your computer and vise versa.

2. If your computer had bluetooth device, just activate your mobile bluetooth and your computer bluetooth device. Have it paired and it recognized your mobile phone by the computer, you can not transfer the data from mobille to computer and vise versa.

3. Another is by using memory card reader in your computer. If laptop have memory card reader, you can use it by removing your SD memory card and insert it to your computer's memory card reader. You can upload pictures from your memory card.

I hope it helps you and thank you for using Fixya !

Dell Tech Support replaced my laptop hard drive and left me the old hard drive that is functional, but has alot of vibration. How do I replace the new laptop hard drive data with the old laptop hard drive...

First what type of hard drive do you have? IDE or SATA (IDE has a very wide data ribbon, SATA a much thinner one when you look at the back of the drive). You need to get either an external 2.5" drive enclosure or a USB/IDE/SATA bare drive connector. For the external enclosure, you need to get the right one for your drive. The data output can be either USB or eSATA, if your laptop has that port and you have a SATA drive). The USB/IDE/SATA connectors can be either bus powered or self-powered. The bus powered ones do not have enough power for some drives. With either of these, the drive must be connected carefully and with the correct orientation of the power and data connectors.

Connect the drive or install it into the enclosure. (For this, open the case, slide the drive part way in and connect the cables, push the drive the rest of the way in. Screw the drive into the frame if this is a needed step. I have seen any tool-less enclosures but read the instructions.) Power on the device and plug it into the appropriate connection on your computer. The device should be found by your computer and the drivers should load.

Assuming your computer sees the drive (if it doesn't one of the cables is probably not seated properly or not correctly oriented to the device), then you can just copy the files to the new drive. Setting up your e-mail may take a bit longer, you may need to import your profile in addition to copying it to the new drive into a folder in the same location.

I hope this helps.

Cindy Wells
(If you do not feel comfortable doing this yourself, there are many data recover companies as well as computer repair shops that will install your drive into the enclosure you buy.)
