Question about Thorens Audio Players & Recorders
I have a Thorens TD 280 turntable that I bought new 20 odd years ago. Every time I press the start button the belt slips off the drive wheels and I have to take the record, rubber and plate off to manually replace the rubber belt. The only way to prevent this is by slowly and carefully spinning the record with my finger until it reaches something like the sorrect speed and only then pressing the button to start the motor. What's going on here? Is the belt worn/stretched and needing replacement? Where do I get a replacement belt? Thanks in advance for any help, Gary.
I have a Linn LP12. At least in the case of my turntable, that's just how you are supposed to use it (i.e. this is what the manual says). You could get a replacement belt f you like, but I would guess it will not make a difference - that is, I think you do not need a replacement belt.
However, in my case I don't have to be very careful about the start-up push on the turntable, just one tweak to get it rotating at about the right speed is enough in my case.
