Check you owners manual for the audio settings. Check these pages and note that the underline setting are the factory settings.Pages 37-41.These are the setting most likely changed. You can always reset the player to factory settings. This will most likely restore everything to normal. This procedure can be found on page 47. The reset function is call default. This is a factory reset function. The function is found in the settings menu under the preferences. If you do not have a copy of the owners manual handy, you can use this link and find a pdf copy on the philips website.http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/cpindex.pl?scy=US&slg=AEN&cat=DVD_HOME_THEATER_CA&sct=DVD_PLAYERS_SU&session=200906 If you still cannot get the player working correctly, you can call the Phillips customer support at this telephone number 1-888-744-5477. Give them the model number of your dvd player and the problem you are having with the sound slowing down. They will be able to help you solve this problem. I hope this information help you solve your problem.

Cannot see the screen Philips DVP5990 DVD player. Setting problem

You may have probably turned on Closed Caption on your TV. Unhook the DVD player to find out if it disappears. If it disappears then Closed Caption is on on your TV. Turn off Closed Caption. If cannot find how, give me the brand and model of your TV.

hello Doramichell1

Here is a link for you.

www.dvd365.net

Along the top of the screen click the option CODES then select Philips. I could not see you model number there. What I would suggest you do is try a code that is close to your model number.

Hope this helps you out. Please leave a thumbs up if this helps you out.

How to make DVP5990/37 Region Free

First I recommend that you upgrade the factory firmware to the latest version. The current version is .31 and available here. Click "I accept" to accept the license agreement and start the download. Open the zip file and burn the file named DVP5990_37.bin to a CD. Put the CD in the DVD player and it will begin the upgrade and open the DVD tray. Remove the CD but leave the DVD tray in the open position. After just under 10 minutes (6-8) the DVD player will report that the update was successful and close the DVD tray. Press the setup button, go to preferences scroll down the choices (past the bottom of the screen) and select reset to default values. The player will reboot.

Next press Setup
select the Preference menu
Press 1,3,8,9,3,1 on the remote control.
Use the up/down arrows to select region "0" which means all regions.

If you ever get a disc that won't play correctly due to a region error, just use the code above to select the correct region for the disc and you will still be able to play it.
