Question about Dell Inspiron 9300 Notebook

My Programs won't work

My computer worked fine until i tried deleting some unused programs on it to make more room for my sims game. the next time i turned it on, the shortcut pictures were changed and the programs won't work anymore. I'm very sure I did not delete or change any of the programs I wanted, yet even the ones I didn't touch are not working. The computer won't even run my antivirus software. I've tried turning it off and then back on several times and it's still the same. I want to revert my computer back to what it was a week or two ago but i can't figure out how. I've done it before on other computers so that programs i deleted would come back, but i can't seem to figure it out for this dell inspiron 9300.

I have recently had internet explorer 11 installed I need to reset it

Don't try to reset a program. There are nor reset buttons for programs. If you have trouble with a program like IE 11 , try to reinstall it, Or just put in your Windows DVD restart the computer and say you want to install windows. Windows sees there is already a version on the computer and will ask you to install windows, or to repair the existing version. Chose the last one, repair.

Other programs, you could reinstall and then reinstall from scratch, But IE is one of the programs you can't uninstall.
Never try to delete programs in windows, because you could delete the main program, but lots of extra files and links, can stay active, missing the main program. But also the registry, will have unused entries, that can't find the programs they are pointing to.
So in Windows, if you don't want to use a program, uninstall is the only way to get it from your computer.

Can get my games to work

you might not have enough computer ram if the games are using lots of graphics (animation)

Laptops are a great way to play games without being tied down to sitting in one place the entire time. However, depending on what is already on the computer and how much room and power a game requires, a laptop can be sluggish and not operate at its full capacity. Several easy and inexpensive options can be used to improve how a computer functions, helping games to run better at the same time.

Place the laptop on a flat, hard surface such as a table. Laptops generate heat, and that heat can affect how fast a game operates. Set a magazine or book underneath the laptop if using it on your lap. Close programs that are not being used before starting a game. This includes other games or spreadsheets, which use a lot of power. The more programs running, the slower the computer will operate. Push "Control+Alt+Delete" to close programs manually. Defragment the hard drive once a month to improve the computer's speed and operations. Select the "Start" button from the bottom left of the computer screen. Select "Computer" from the list of options. Right-click using the mouse on the hard drive icon and select "Properties" at the bottom of the drop-down menu. Select "Tools" from the top of the box, and select "Defragment Now." Depending on how long it has been since the last time the computer was defragmented, this could take some time. Remove unused programs and files from the computer's hard drive. Large files such as photos and videos take up a lot of space. Move this to a back-up hard drive or copy photos to a compact disc. That way, this files will not be lost, just moved from the main hard drive. Scan the computer for viruses daily. Viruses can not only damage a computer, but also slow it down. Install an anti-virus software program that will regularly check for threats. These programs can also use computer resources, so close the program before running a game. Dust off the laptop every few weeks. Dust and air particles can clog vents on the laptop, restricting circulation. This can cause the equipment to run slower than it should. Press windows button and in the search type msconfig go to startup tab and uncheck those you dont want to start. scroll to the bottom toolbar bottom of screen right click you can select task manager applications also processes you will see whats running on your computer and ticking over you might have a virus http://www.majorgeeks.com/Microsoft_Security_Essentials_for_Windows_d6242.html microsoft security essentials your operating system must be registered Win7/Vista/XP 64 bit http://majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=4281&file=1&evp=dbb3b0aebe6a6a4ff18089a6489a5e62 anti malware free edition Win XP/2003/Vista/Windows7 if you see something running that you does not need to be running select end now then you might you might uninstall that particular program and some unnecessary programs you should also check leads from motherboard to hard drive for secure dust free connections click start control panel administrative tools computer management disk management right click on your drive select properties click tools you should see click check now click start tick in both boxes this will schedule to on restart do not have any input while chkdsk utility is in progress any might damage your computer also you might download and use this registry cleaner it is totally free to use http://download.cnet.com/ccleaner/ then defragment your hard drive adding more ram is the best way of speeding up a computer If youre not sure if a module is right for your system use the Crucial Memory Advisor tool for a list of guaranteed compatible modules
you should always ask for a guarantee on compatibility before purchasing any ram and buy working pairs if possible you might have to many programs running at the same time putting to much strain on the CPU central processing unit
try uninstalling a few unnecessary programs This tool deletes unnecessary or temporary files on your hard disk so you can increase the amount of storage space you have. Delete the files using Disk Cleanup If you want to reduce the number of unnecessary files on your hard disk to free up disk space and help your computer run faster, use Disk Cleanup. It removes temporary files, empties the Recycle Bin, and removes a variety of system files and other items that you no longer need. Open Disk Cleanup by clicking start all programs accessories system tools and then clicking Disk Cleanup. In the Disk Cleanup Options dialog box, choose whether you want to clean up your own files only or all of the files on the computer. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. If the Disk Cleanup Drive Selection dialog box appears, select the hard disk drive that you want to clean up, and then click OK. Click the Disk Cleanup tab, and then select the check boxes for the files you want to delete. When you finish selecting the files you want to delete, click OK, and then click Delete files to confirm the operation. Disk Cleanup proceeds to remove all unnecessary files from your computer. How to increase the speed of laptop

The single easiest way is first increase the speed is to upgrade the RAM of the computer, it is cheap and easy to do, the modules just plug into the mother board, the manufacturer will provide free instructions on how to do this, just email product support, it is free as I said. Next is clean up the hard drive, delete any programs that are no longer needed, also in the start up programs in the system tray turn off as many programs as possible so the computer isn't running unused programs in the back ground. I would also use the browser tools to delete surfing history and cookies every few days. You can once again get specific information on how to do all of the above by sending an email to your computers customer service product support staff. I learned all this from HP and Microsoft by just emailing them with questions about slow running computers, they are eager to assist. The single easiest way is first increase the speed is to upgrade the RAM of the computer, it is cheap and easy to do, the modules just plug into the mother board, the manufacturer will provide free instructions on how to do this, just email product support, it is free as I said. 1)Clean the Temp folder - C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp
    2)Delete unused user profiles
3)Uninstall unused programsfrom Control Panel, Programs, Programs and Features
4)Run CCleaner - http://download.cnet.com/CCleaner/(This should clean up some of those extra caches, temporary files, log files, and other things strewn about your system)
    5)Run Anti-Virus Scan
6)You might also want to take a look at your start-up items in msconfigand uncheck options you don't need. This'll decrease your computer's boot time significantly, not to mention free up a few resources
7)Remove programs in Start-up Folder (Start, All Programs, Startup)

Hello pamnwillie,
If your computer has "System Restore," you can possibly 'recover the programs',
that you 'deleted'!
To perform a "System Restore.
"Follow these instructions carefully, and you will have no problem at all.
The first thing you want to do is click on the "Start Button, paul7of9_50.jpg from the Desktop.
Next, click on "All Programs," scroll to find, Accessories.

Open the program.
"Next select the "System Tools.
"You will see in the next window that open; "System Restore!

paul7of9_51.jpg

"Now this is very important!
Once you click on the System Restore "shortcut."

It will start to look for the last known time of a change in your computer.
The System restore can take as long as a 1/2 an hour to run, so be patient.
"Do not try to do any type of work.

Don't even touch the keyboard for any reason; just let it run!"
Once the System Restore finds the correct "Date and Time"of the event;
choose the Date closest to the time of the occurrence.

eg. "Deleted Programs."

.paul7of9_53.jpg

"Now once again, there will be a 'message'!

Do not do anything with the computer,
"Please don't."
The System Restore will "run" for a while; so once again be patient.

paul7of9_52.jpg

The computer will then "Shutdown and Restart."
Lo-gin if you have to; but!
Do not touch the Keyboard once the Desktop window open,

because System Restore is still running.
Wait! Until there is a message letting you know the

"Restore of your System was successful!"
Take your time.
"I hope all goes well; please let me know if you need further assistant.
"Best Regards."

Trying to play games on yahoo, ican get all the

delete your cookies, browsing history and temp files. If that doesn't work click on either your vista logo or start button in the bottom left hand corner. In the run box type the word MSCONFIG, press enter. Click on the startup tab. Click on the disable all button then click on apply, OK and let the machine reboot. This will stop alot of the programs from starting up when you boot into windows. See if this works.
