the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Can i replace the the hp pavilion DV4000 SERIES 80GB (4200 RPM) HARD DRIVE with any 7200 rpm notebook hdd?

You should be able to replace it, but you will need an adapter lead from laptop hdd to motherboard as the laptop hdd will be smaller and you may need a kit to fix hdd into 3.5" bay. Both are readily available.

Have a look on ebay under computers then hard drive erase. There you can get discs for £1.79. I have used a version of these myself and they work very well. Don't know whether you are planning to reinstall OS or not. Hope this helps.

I am also facing the same problem with my HP Pavilion DV2810US laptop. It was working fine till other day when while using Facebook, my screen scrambled and then shut it down using power button. After that when I tried to turn it on again, it doesnt have any display. All the indicators though are on but the hard-drive indicator is not on. Please advise if anyone has faced same issue.

Its ram problem,so first if you can access the bios check if your ram are been recognized and load default bios settings. If are OK in bios remove RAM and reinstall again. If the problem still exists try again testing your Ram with the Microsoft program or with that.
If the programs founds an error you RAM are damaged and replace them.

The troubleshooting you have done seems to be fine. It does not seem to be a problem with the power supply, cord or battery.Did you try a hard reset. If there is a reset button on the bottom of your laptop, you might want to try pressing that with laptop plugged in, not plugged in, with battery, without battery and different combinations thereof.
If this does not work or you don't have a reset button read on.

Before assuming it's the motherboard, there is one other possibility. There is a part called a PCA switch. It is possible this switch has gone bad or a plug might have come loose.

If you are comfortable with doing your own work, you can obtain a repair manual for your laptop online. Within this manual, it should explain what is involved in replacing this part. It is really not too complicated.

It does not sound like a hard drive problem simply because it doesn't seem to be getting power to any other part of the laptop.

You can try these steps.

My hp pavilion 4200 i took the hard drive out and put it back in when i booted it up it says media cable not found then it says operating system not found. tried to run the operating system cd and it says...

The laptop can't find a hard disk, eirher the hard drive is faulty or not seated properly.
Take out the hard drive and reseat it again then see if the laptop boots up. If it still can't find the hard drive, listen to the hard drive, is it spinning up, is it making clicking noises? This indicates a faulty drive and needs to be replaced.
You can also test the hard drive by removing the hard drive and attaching it to a USB hard drive adapter and then plug it into a working computer's USB port. If the hard drive is OK then the computer will see it as an external drive and you can view and open the files.

hi, enter into BIOS setup and check the drive configuration for whether the drive is detected, and the size of the drive it shows. If it is correct, your hard drive may be ok. other wise the guy you contacted may be correct.
