My dv4000 hp will not power on nothing no light took everything off the motherboard and tested it but still nothing could it be the power control panel ,getting 19 volts at the back of the dc jack so shouldnt be that check the ac getting 19 volts out of that

first check fuse in plug. if good then check power adaptor, even if its lit up it still can be faulty or use a voltmeter to check that you are getting continuous current. if good it gets harder youll have to open it up and check the fuse inside it dont look like a normal fuse its small. its at the back next to were you plug in the charger should say f. check picture. its not for youre model but just a demonstration. hope this helps. j.oates
Computer does not boot up The problem maybe the RAM, it is faulty or just needs reseating to make proper electrical contact. Reseat the RAM and then boot up your laptop. If it still does not boot up then remove the RAM module/s and take them to your friendly computer repair shop and get them to test the RAM for you.

Some motherboard makers incorporate a flash recovery-config jumper or boot block recovery jumper on their motherboards. This can often be used to recover from a bad or failed flash. On most machines a small segment of the flash ROM does not get overwritten when you perform a normal flash update. This small portion of code contains a basic boot block which can enable the machine to reload another BIOS from floppy disk.
If you have a laptop or desktop without a floppy. You can either fit a floppy in the conventional manner or in some cases a USB floppy or CD-ROM can be used.
Laptops are far more prone to be taken out by even minor power surges then anything else in your home, including desktop computers.
If you have any method (multimeter etc) to check the voltage from the power supply you may have been lucky and it took the bullet to save the laptop.
If the power is registering in the correct range, around 18volts, then chances are your laptop has taken the hit and the motherboard is gone.
If this is the case, then before you throw it against the nearest wall, take it to a laptop repair centre. It "may" have been saved by a fuse on the motherboard and therefore protected itself as best it could.

I'd guess the problem is either the hard drive connector in the bay (trying putting in the original drive and seating it very solidly) or else the motherboard hard drive controller (rare problem). You can diagnose which of these it might be by putting the hard drive back in and then booting into the BIOS (F10 or delete at boot up) and then investigating whether the hard drive is being correctly identified by the BIOS. If it is, run any tests or AUTO options it has to see if the BIOS can contact the drive properly. Then, step through the BIOS settings and try turning on and off settings like SMART FOR HARD DRIVE and so forth and rebooting in cycles after every change. It is also possible that with the power problems you've described, the BIOS got reset and may need tweaking to get it working again. If you see evidence t might be a BIOS reset problem (for example, the system clock is crazy wrong), try to LOAD SAFE DEFAULTS AND EXIT option in the BIOS. If you test it all this way and find no problems, and you can access the drive normally on another machine, it is probably the motherboard IDE controlled. Will it boot from a CD/DVD? They are usually on the same IDE channel and so failure to boot from a CD tells you something is wrong in the hardware.
