Question about HP DeskJet 3740 InkJet Printer

1 Answer

My HP Deskjet 3740 had a paper jam. I removed all the paper. Turned the printer and computer on and off several times but the printer still thinks it has a paper jam. I can't get the printer to work at all.

You have to check if there is still a piece of paper jammed in the printers rollers/gears. It is inside when u take the lid off. After that you can try to recalibrate your printer from the software which came along with the printer. Try these and give more clarification.

My printer says it has a paper jam, even though the paper jam has been cleared. It won't print. Any ideas?

Hi, Try pulling out the plug for 1 hour and then try again. Pulling the plug may reset the printer.
Good luck.

My hp 3740 Printer's power button is blinking and doesn"t print since yesterday.

Blinking power light can mean a jam, out of paper, open cover, or bad usb cable.
Open the covers and look for torn paper and nothng blocking the paper sensor. Check and make sure your USB cable from PC to printer is connected.

o check printing capabilities, print a Self Test Report. In order to print such a test follow the next steps:
  1. Turn the printer on and place media in the tray.Set the width adjusters to fit tightly against the sides of the paper in the tray.
    1. Press Power button while opening and closing the printer access door four times.
    2. Release the Power button.Your printer will print a test report.

Top light with (x) blinking

Fixed this problem this morning by unplugging the printer from the computer, plugging it back in and changing out both cartridges (color and black) and replacing with new cartridges.

Don't know which helped. I had been unplugging the computer from the power source but not the printer from the computer.

My four year old printer is still cranking - good open forum you provide here. Thank you !
In that spirit, I decided to contribute my update ..... Judy

Failure to print

Here's what we did: Lifted the lid and turned off printer. Then turned on again. Unplugged power cable from back of printer, moved the carriage toward the middle of the printer. Took out cartridges and closed the lid. Plugged the power cord back in. Reinstalled the cartridges. After the alignment page it worked fine. These instructions are paraphrased from HP website troubleshooting. I don't have any idea why any of it worked, but it did and I'm grateful.
