Question about Lenovo 3000 N100 CoreDT2080 VB PC Notebook

Display is black

Hello,
I am a tech, but never worked on a laptop hardware problems before, anyway I display flashes a reddish color when you turn it on but that is it, it boots up fine, and works on an external monitor fine. I bought a new inverter but that wasn`t the problem, and for what a replacement Display cost, might as well buy a new laptop. Has anyone had this problem? Can or how can it be fixed?

Why is my laptop screen black during startup?

I recommend you to connect an external monitor and check if there is display on it. Press 'Windows' + 'P' on the key board to get display on the external monitor.
I also suggest you to run diagnostics on display. To test the display shut the system down, next press and hold the letter 'D' on the keyboard and press the power button. This will initiate diagnostics on the display. Please check if the colors are displayed across the screen without a problem.

You may also try this step that is shut the system down, remove the battery and disconnect the ac adapter, press and hold the power button for 20 to 30 seconds. Now connect only the ac adapter and wait for 30 seconds , press and hold the Fn key on the keyboard and power on the system. This will run diagnostics on the hardware components and also the display.

Hello, I have a problem with hp pavilion dv

Try lowering your display settings when it is hooked up to the external monitor. Then try the laptop screen again.
Right click an open area of the desktop, select properties, click the display tab. In the lower left of the box there is a settings slider, try lowering the settings and see if it gets better.

When I turn my Toshiba laptop on,it's black

You may have a defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashes on and off or displays reddish pink hue. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickers on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replace the CCFL lamp.
To determine if the video card or the LCD is faulty, connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight. It could be a faulty inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out; usually the CCFL lamp fails before the inverter.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

After I boot the system and my desktop view comes uo, the screen will go black. It varies when it happens. Duroing the initial boot the screen has a reddish shade to it.

Hello. I have the exact same problem with my daughter's 600m...The problem is actually a worn out fluorescent tube which provides the backlighting for the LCD panel display! When the display blacks, use a bright flashlight very close to the screen...if you can still see the image in the display, that's your confirmation. The classic symptom is the "pinking out" at first boot. If you are VERY careful, and technically skilled, you can replace the tube. The new tubes can be bought for about 14-15 dollars on Ebay.My 600m is a 14" display. If, however, you aren't technically experienced--DON'T ATTEMPT THIS REPAIR. Play it safe and either buy another complete display(also available on Ebay) or get the part and have a tech put it in. If you decide to *completely* play it safe and get a NEW display, and use a tech, ask around first to find a reputable shop. Don't send in the unit through a retail store--they'll tack on unnecessary charges to your bill. This site offers listings of good laptop repair facilities.---good luck!---Rick

Hi. i am using Dell inspiron 6400. i have been using it for more than a year now. since yesterday i am experiencing a new kind of problem. my display was working fine untill yesterday. i have windows XP as...

Sounds like you have a failing backlight. The flourescent tube at the bottom of the LCD that make the screen bright enough to see will change to a reddish tinge as it goes bad. Eventually the tube will not generate light at all and the screen will go black, but you can still see the image faintly if you use a flashlight at an angle to the LCD surface. You might also hear a faint buzzing sound, just like when an overhead flourescent goes bad.

Replacing the backlight is a tedious and difficult job. First the LCD panel has to be removed, and then it must be disassembled to get to the backlight. The tubes can be purchased on eBay but they are leaded glass and very thin, so they tend to break easily. There are two contact tips must be desoldered and then the two new ones soldered before the LCD panel can be reassembled and then put back into the upper half of laptop.

For a beginner, it is much easier to replace the entire panel with a new or known good used one. Best bet is to check your warranty first, otherwise a full LCD panel will cost at least $75 plus the labor to install.

As for the TV out, the preferred method is to hook an external by VGA cable to test the video card. You should get full picture with proper colors since the problem is in the laptop's display itself. The TV out jack requires drivers and a functioning XP to display.
