Re: where is the wireless button on t42 thinkpad
There's no hardware switch to activate and deactivate the wireless networking, but pressing Fn and F5 brings up a menu that allows you to turn Bluetooth on/off, WiFi on/off or both. It seems like IBM isn't satisfied with standard toggle buttons like other notebook manufacturers - even pressing the Fn and F7 buttons to switch between internal and external screens, brings up a menu with multiple display settings and resolutions.
Hope this helps,

Make sure you Press and Hold the FN function key then hit the F2 key.
Maybe you don't have your wireless turned on. Look on
both sides and in front for the Wireless Switch and turn it on.
Also once the wireless switch is turned on there are keystrokes that can toggle
the wireless on or off. Normally you would Press and Hold the FN function
key located at the lower left of the keyboard, then hit the correct F1 thru F12
key that toggles the wireless. The correct F1 thru F12 key to hit will
have the wireless signal icon )))) on it. Or it might have the icon of a tower
with the wireless signal icon )))). Normally the screen will display
Wireless On or Wireless Off when you toggle the wireless.
Some laptops might have a wireless button instead of a wireless switch located above the keyboard or on the front or sides.

There are three ways to toggle the wireless switch on/off, 1st, Fn + wireless button (F2 or F5), 2nd, the wireless switch on the side of the laptop, 3rd, it can be enabled or disabled under BIOS setup (Tap F2 when turned on the laptop).
Hi. Here is a diagram of your laptop. It looks like your wireless switch is turned on by hitting a combination of two keyboard buttons. The Fn key and the F2 key. Locate the Fn (function) key, and locate the F2 key. Then press the Fn key and hold it down. Then press the F2 key and it should cycle back to on. If that does not work. Click on start, my computer, on the left, my network places, view network connections. Double click on your wireless connection, and it should enable it if it is disabled. Thanks for using Fixya!
Maybe the drivers for the special keys are not installed. Try simply pressing the F2 key instead of Fn+F2. If it does the trick, then you have multimedia keys first option selected in BIOS which means you need to use Fn to Press function keys.
You did not state which laptop model you have. Here is a list of the most common key strokes or switches:
Fujitsu Siemens Amilo A Series ---- Button above the keyboard on top right Fujitsu Siemens Amilo D Series ---- Button above the keyboard on top right Fujitsu Siemens Amilo K Series ---- Not Wireless Fujitsu Siemens Amilo L/EL Series ---- Fn / F1 to turn on/off Fujitsu Siemens Amilo La Series ---- Fn / F2 to turn on / off Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Li Series ---- Easy launch button (one of 3) on top of keyboard
