Lock code needed when erasing all contacts on sch-u740 cell phone
Bought a used samsung sch-u740 and I want to erase the contact list. When I go to "erase all" I get a message saying I need a "lock code" and there is a place to enter four numbers (has to be numbers). Is this a standard feature that Samsung supplies the lock code? Or do I need the lock code that the previous owner made up? I emailed the ebay guy who sold me the phone, but havent' received a reply yet.

Please try resetting the phone to default settings and it should work. The default code should be the last 4 digits of your phone number unless you have changed it.

Tap 5.Security, You're prompted to enter the lock code. The default lock code is the last four digits of your telephone number.
Enter the Lock Code and tap DONE. The security menu appears in the display.
Tap 5.Restore Phone. A prompt appears in the display asking if you wish to restore default settings and erase all user data including pictures, videos, music, messages, contacts, and downloaded applications stored on the phone.
Tap Yes to reset and restore default settings or tap No to return to the Security list.
this happened to me once with picture messages too, and i just called verizon and they took me through a step by step process and helped me fix it. I think it was that my phone just needed to be flashed or upgraded or whatever. They give you the number to call and do this.
1. Menu--scroll to Tools & Settings---press OK
2. Look for Security, press OK
3. Enter the last 4 digits of your phone #, or whatever you set the lock code to.
4. There should be an option to delete contacts. Becareful not to press the Reset Default option, for it will erase everything (ringtones, pix, filx, screensavers, etc..)
**If the Security option is not seen in the Tools and Settings, then choose Call Settings or Phone Settings. It should be in one of these.
