Dir 628 - Dropping the internet connection when idle for a while

I just bought a Dlink Dir 628 , since it allows the use of a USB port and allow printing from the netwrk. Since installing the thing, I almost have had a riot on my hands from my sons and wife.

After leaving the internet for a couple of hours, it is almost always not working properly once we return. two devices are wired and 3 including 2 iphone are wireless.

Upgraded the firm ware no change, Change the WAN speed to 100Mbs . Jury still out on if that solved the problem.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Just completed the DSN server.........192.168.0.1. Don't know if this is correct or otherwise.  What should it be and how would I change it.

It might not be pointing to the correct DNS....check what your DNS is using command prompt.....the command is either "netstat"  or "ipconfig /all"

Portforward.com has a great reference for most routers including yours. Verify what you did matches the instructions on this site.

PortForward.com instructions on how to configure DLink DIR 300
http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Dlink/DIR-300/GameRanger.htm

If you still cannot connect, verify GameRanger is allowed through your firewall. If you are using the Windows Firewall, temporarily disable it and see if you can now connect and host a game.

Reset my dlink dir 615 router and now internet light stays flashing orange

Do you have the Internet connected to the Internet port in the back of the DLINK? You will have to configure the DLINK for internet access. Open a web browser to your DLINK and check on the configuration under internet-setup. Select the type of internet connection you have i.e. DHCP, PPPoE, Static, etc. Once that is set up, you should have access to the internet like before.

How do i add the printer the dlink dir 628 router

The DIR-628 does support a USB printer. You need to download the appropriate shareport version from dlink http://www.dlink.ca/products/?pid=DIR-628&tab=3.firmware

If the printer drivers are already installed on your PC you should be ready to go.

Dlink dir 300 internet problem

First you have to make sure that you connected it correctly. the cable coming out of the modem should be connected to the single port (Internet port) at the right when facing the back of the router.

All computers that are wired through it should be able to access the internet. if one of your computers cannot access the internet you may want to check the IP address that you are getting. (go to a command prompt and type ipconfig).

If you are connecting a wireless computer check the wireless security setting which you can find at the configuration (setup) page of the router. to access the configuration page check the owner's manual.

D Link DIR 635 router conection internet

Normally, all ruters are hubs as well. if you want to connect it as a hub only; try connecting only the ports minus the WAN port that goes to the DSL modem. In this case the router will behave just like a hub.
