Question about Dryers

1 Answer

Noise & bumping sound when Maytag dryer is turned on

This occurs when it is first turned on and sort of evens out as the tub picks up speed. It dries the clothes fine.

How do I get to the rear drum rollers?

  • skifferz Mar 10, 2009

Thanks! I will try this. Is the "lid" the door that opens to put clothes in the dryer? My dryer door opens from the front of the machine.

Can jumptrout51 or someone else tell me if the "top lid" that jumptrout51 referred to is the lid that opens to put clothes in or a lid to get to the belt and drum? my dryer door opens from the front to put clothes in.

Replace the rear drum rollers.
They are worn out.

Raise the top lid on the dryer.

Remove the 2 screws holding the front of the dryer to the cabinet.

Remove the front panel and disconnect the wiring.

Remove the belt and the drum.

Remove the drum rollers from the rear of the dryer cabinet and replace them with new rollers.

Re-assemble the dryer in the reverse order from above.

The top lid on a Maytag is the top of the dryer...not the door.

2 screws on the bottom right and left of the dryer...near the floor.

Remove the screws. Pull the front panel towards you and then up.

Remove the top right and left screws on the dryer cabinet and raise the lid.

Remove the dryer belt...then remove the drum.

The drum support rollers are attached to the back wall.

My dryer is making a bumping noise, almost ike something is rubbing, It sounds like tennis shoes are being dried. If I put mt head near the bird cage I can hear a little noise. If I grab the tub I can move...

Without a model number all I can do is pass you a generic response. There are 2 sizes of repair kits that include drum rollers (Flat spots on yours) a belt and a drum felt. 27 inch and 29 inch. Having said that... the drum rollers are what are causing your thumping noise. PN: 303373
I would also replace the belt: 31531589 the drum glides 306508 and the drum seals Multi-listing here: http://www.repairclinic.com/Maytag-Dryer-Gasket-Or-Seal-Parts?z=50 also inspect the idler pulley and bearing. Not sure how old your dryer is but by doing the above you should get more than 5 years good service out of your dryer. It is worth the time effort and expense to repair it.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

Loud noise as the tumbler is drying

Front or rear? Rear is probably center bearing. Fornt is front tub wheel or glide worn out. If noise is in front remove front and inspect.

My dryer started making a bumping noise when it

Your slides are worn and when you put clothes in the metal tub is now getting tracktion/ making metal to metal contact when it shouldn't and overloading the electric/belt drive. There is a kit to fix the problem but the dryer will need disassebled to put it in. At this time it would also be adviseable to replace the belt and tub bearing as well.
