Question about Tomtom GPS Devices

1 Answer

A problem has arose with not being able to connect my TomTom to the computer for updates. When hooked up it asks if you want to hook up to the computer. I answered Yes and the next screen comes up to please wait. Nothing further happens as well as nothing shows up on the computer screen. Please advise. Doug Gess

If you have a big red circle with a white X in it, it usually means that your TomTom One 'disk' is corrupted: first try a 'hard reset' , while the power is on, stick a small (tooth) stick through the hole under your unit base and opposite to were the USB connector go, for a few seconds, remove the pressur on the stick will cause a complete system reboot if possible.

Next, since you can connect to the computer, use Windows Explorer -> Properties -> Tools > Error-checking to scan and repair any problem with your Tomtom drive & check if you still have a problem.

If there is an error or you cannot reboot, hopefully you have a backup made either by copying the whole unit disk content or more traditionally via TomTom Home, I would suggest a complete restore your device content follow by a TomTom Home device update.

Hope it helps: let me know how you go.

Tomtom One does not boot up, gets stuck on white loading screen. When connected to PC, Tomtom Home does not recognize device as connected.

Press the reset button on the under part of the TT. Then hook it up to the PC and redownload applications, maps and updates from Tom Tom.

hook it up to the usb cable to your computer for a few hours (but not more then 4 hours) then press and hold the power button for up to 15 seconds.

once you get it started, hook it up to tomtom home and see if it has the latest updates.

if you do not have tomtom home, you can download it HERE

My tomtom xl cannot pick up a signal

After updates it takes about 45 seconds before it will do anything again and sometimes it won't pick up satellites. I switch it off then on again and it is usually OK even after that but sometimes it needs to be on the move before it recognises satellites.
