Could have broken the shear pin in the drive pulley. If one of the pulleys turns when you put it in gear but the other pulley does not turn then the shear pin is broken or missing.

I have a Yamaha ys 626 snowblower - how do I fix a non moving auger?


Most snow blowers have a "shear pin", (or roll pin) that links the auger to the drive shaft. It is there in case you strike something hard with the auger. The shear pin will break and protect the auger, the engine, and the operator. The shear pin can be purchased anyplace that services snow blowers, and it can be replaced by the owner.

this could be a engine timing problem this model should have a 17.5 hp kohler engine , now kohler's are now famous for having coil problems cus of overheating it and the other cause could be if you reciently shocked this engine hard (Heavy load) sometimes the flywheel pully (iron thing on top) comes loose or you shear the keyway on shaft anyways ck out my youtube video on easy way to change kohler coil for help doing this (all you need is 6 mm wrench , two hands and a playing card)

Why does the shearpin in the driveshaft break on a simplicity p1728e snowblower all the time


You're either working it too hard (heavy hard-packed snow) or picking up rocks. Better that you break a shear pin than that you damage a shaft or the engine! Shear pins are CHEAP compared to engines.

This is a fairly frequent problem that is easily fixed. What happened was the snowblower's auger was either overloaded or got jammed (ice, debris - something other than snow). Rather than twist, damage or break the auger itself, an inexpensive part called a "shear pin" is designed to fail. A shear pin employed between the auger sleeve and drive shaft that is inside the sleeve. You may have broken one if one side of the auger spins) or both (if both sides of the auger spins). Purchase several replacements for your particular machine to have on hand. Do NOT replace s shear pin (or shear bolt) with a regular bolt under any circumstances! Check the video linked below on how to replace the shear pins. Good luck!

should be noninterference engine but have seen in the past if engine was revving high enough when belt broke valves did contact pistons also these engines will sometimes have a camshaft start siezing in the head which will cause the cam pin to shear allowing sprocket to spin on the camshaft and break the timing belt

Husqvarna shear pins break within minutes


if we are speaking about the shear pins on the tines, the ground is the problem and you need to begin your first pass on a more shallow setting and progress to a deeper setting gradually. if we are speaking about the shear pins on the tires w/o engaging the tines then these should not be breaking and I recommend that the tiller be examined by an authorized dealer.

The shear pins on the rake keep breaking on a 853 NEW HOLLAND ROUND BALER. What is ?


Do you mean the driveline protection shear pin (pickup, roll the bale and wrap it) or the overfill protection shear pin?

For the driveline shear pin, check the type of pickup that you have. Make sure that you have the correct shear pin for the pickup (wide or regular). Also check the year of your baler, there are substitute shear bolts available that do not work on a range of the 853 baler. New Holland has a parts list for the baler on their site. Start at http://partstore.agriculture.newholland.com/us/ and use the Look up parts by equipment on the left of the page or see your manual. Next check the air bag pressure. (Make sure that you are in the operating range with a regular pressure gauge. It's possible for the gauge on the baler to read low.) If the pressure is out of the operating range, the roller bars can hit other parts of the baler and cause the shear pin to break.

If your baler uses net wrap, make sure that the wrap isn't caught in the unit. (If the knife doesn't cut the net wrap, it will get caught in the tailgate and the rest of the baler. If it tears in use, it may wrap around the pickup and cause the shear pin to break.) This may apply to twine as well but I do not have experience with it happening with the twine tied 853 baler.)

For the rest of the checks, you will have to remove any bale that is in the baler. If it is large enough it may roll out even if it isn't wrapped when the tailgate is up (try driving up hill). Otherwise, you need to pull, cut or pry the bale out. Standing on the kicker can help the bale roll out if sufficient weight is added. We've found that a spare bale spear works well. Removing the hay in small sections can also work.

What is the moisture of the bale? If the bale is too wet, it will be too heavy and shear the pin before the bale chamber is full.

Next check all of the roller bars in the unit. If any are bent significantly, that one can hit another part of the baler and break the shear pin. It's possible to straighten some of the bars out depending on the damage. If the bar is S-shaped or severely bent, replace it. (Your New Holland parts store may have someone who will demonstrate the technique for bar straightening. It involves hammering the bar straight when it is securely held in a vise. If you can hold the bar safely, I've also seen a bucket on a front-loader straighten the bars.) If a rock gets past the windrow guard, the bars can get bent.

Check that the chains are centered and that none of the gears are shifted to narrow or wider paths in a spot. (There are bars that can be adjusted between two sets of gears near the top front of the baler. Loosen the four bolts and push the parts closer or pull them farther apart.) Check that none of the bearings for the apron motion are frozen or damaged. Replace or repair anything that is damaged.

Do not make the bales too large or uneven. (If you have a Bale Command unit on the baler, it is easier to control the even formation of the bale.)

For the overfill protection, make sure to reset the unit after replacing the shear pin. It can be tough to pull the trip arm fully back. Make sure that nothing is in the tailgate. If your baler has a kicker, make sure that that the two springs on the sides are undamaged and holding the kicker level.

(my 853 baler with the wide pickup uses Driveline shear pin 46520 and Overfill shear pin 46047. I'm not sure of the year of the unit. When we got shear pins with a different number, we broke 3 or 4 in a row before realizing that we'd gotten the wrong ones; they were noticably thinner than the required ones. Roller bars are what I call the bars between the chains and we've replaced/straightened many of them.)

Hi, while Iwas using my MTD bush mower( model 11A-414E529). the blades hit a metalic object that was not visible (digged in the ground) and the mower stpped. now it is very hard to turn even by hand. not...


You most likely sheared off the shear pin that keeps the driveshaft and the blade in right timing with the motor and piston.
What happens then is the exhaust valves are not open at the time the piston should be in it's correct position where the cylinder pressure and gases can be exhausted at the right time. Also if it did manage to run it would run very roughly. The shear pin is designed to break or "shear" off when a hard object is struck so that you do not ruin your engines drive shaft that attaches to the blade. So what happens is that the shaft turns out of sync with the timing of the engine and putting it simply, the intake and exhaust stages are all messed up and that makes for an engine that is hard to pull over or if it does and it starts, it runs very badly. Spark plugs firing at the wrong times versus the valves and piston positions. Fortunately it is rather easy to replace a sheared off pin yourself. Once you get the new pin, there are a number of YouTube videos that will show you how to replace a sheared pin. Just type in "replacing a Shear pin in a lawnmower engine. It helps to put the brand of the motor of your lawnmower in the search as well. It is actually quite easy for a semi handy man.
Hope that helps. I suspect all the other answers so far pertaining to pull/rip cords are incorrect but that is my opinion only.

I have a rear tine craftsman tiller and it keeps breaking the shear pins on the right outer tine. I have replace the pins several times. Same results. What could be causing the problem?


Hi,
The hole is worn out so the pin has room to move around inside the hole which causes excess wear on the pin...this causes the pin to break after a period of use...

The best fix would be to have the hole welded up and then redrilled to the proper size again..
