I have a desktop computer and a laptop. My linksys WRT160N router doesn't seems to work for both of them. My laptop uses a wireless connection while my desktop is connected by an ethernet cable. When i first got the router it worked fine for a while. I reset it to get it working again. I've been doing this over and over again for a year. Each time i do, the length if time when it works gets shorter and shorter. Now it doesn't work at all. My internet is fine. When i disconnect and turn off the router and plug the modem directly into my desktop it works perfectly. So it's obviously the router that is the problem

Don run the CD now. if you remember your wireless network name, then on your laptop on right side at the bottom just click on single computer or sign could be off some bars. click on that you will see your network in the list, click on your network, it will ask for network key , put in there and click on connect. select the network after that. click ok .

in the last step select home network. click ok

I have heard alot of people having this type of problem. The best would be to upgrade your firmware to another firmware such as

dd-wrt and tomato

I prefer you choose DD-WRT just go to www.dd-wrt.com and click on supported devices and just type in the last 3 digits of your router then download the firmware depending on the type of your specification. Then on the wireless make sure you put the Wireless Network Mode on Mixed.

If you need more setting please let me know i will be able to assist you much better on this..

Thanks

To connect to your wireless router, the router's wirelesssettings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also thewireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with theserouter's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicatewith your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default PW (write it down and putit in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2encryption.
Apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

I have a cisco WRT160 router and have lost wireless to laptop

Change all the wireless settings of the router.
Change the SSID ( network name ). change the SSID something new that you never tried before. change the security to WPA personal.
change the channel to 6.
make sure the wireless MAC filter is disabled.
under advanced wireless settings change the beacon interval to 75.

Now on your computer try to connect to the new network name.

see if that works.
If that doesn't work then try to upgrade the firmware./

You may need to temporarily wire the laptop to the router.

who is your internet service provider and what is the brand or model no. of your modem?
What is the operating system of your laptop?

I can give you the steps on how you can configure the router for internet and after that i can give you the steps on how to setup the wireless on the router.

Log into router by typing the ip address of router, usually 192.168.1.1 into an address bar (IE or My Computer). Enter in the router username and password, usually defaults to blank username with the password as "admin".
Then on the setup page you can make the MTU whatever you want.

Have you activated SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, and TLS 1.0 in Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Security? If they are not activated, there is the real possibility you won't connect. Happened to me just tonight and discovered them all unchecked. Reactivated all 3 and voila.... it worked!

I have a new modem: model speedstream 5200, now I can't connect my router: Linskeys model BEFSR41

Your router and DSL modem probably both are set to the same IP address:
192.168.1.1

Change one of them to 192.168.1.2(I'm suggesting the Linksys)
and it should fix the problem and have them both working again.
