Question about NetGear RangeMax WPN824 Router

Get Netgear 824 wifi working for all computers

I just got my new Netgear 824 router up and running for my primary laptop (a Macbook), but my other Mac laptops are not responding to it. The airports are showing that I'm connected to the router, yet I'm not able to open any web page. Any suggestions?

I decided to return the Netgear as I don't think it is user friendly for Macs (plus I got bounced around by their customer support.) I was told that Linksys may be better for Macs. Thanks for checking.

Yes, same here. Connected to all devices and internet is SLOW but there (neighbor's internet-cable also is fine) and my iBook says it's connected, but I cannot get Firefox or Safari to open any web pages.

Philliplee--What router did you end up with and did it work better??

I just got my Netgear 824 and I was able to connect to it with my pc and my wifi enabled phone but not with my ibook. Solution: when entering the WEP password enter a $, dollar sign, before the WEP password. I tried it and it worked like a charm.

Hi,
Mac computers have always been known by being stubborn in wifi matters. Please try the basic steps, like reset SMC, most of the times it sorts this issues. If problem persists and you have access to the router, make sure you have WPA2 Personal AES.

Lost wifi connection

Macbooks can be a bit finicky with their Wifi depending on the model number, and also which router you have. For example, an old Netgear-based router I had would routinely drop the connection to my old Macbook Pro, even though the mac had nothing wrong with its hardware or software, and it would still think it was connected perfectly to the internet.

The easiest way to determine if there is a problem with the Wifi built in to your mac is to try it on another network and see how you get on.

If you have no problem keeping connected on an alternate network, the issue lies between your computer and the base station, and is probably also affected by any other wireless networks you have close by.

At this point, without knowing anything about your router, I wouldn't want to suggest anything more, though forcing your router to use a particular Wi-Fi channel rather than allowing it to choose it itself might help out a lot. It's probably best to ask a local technician if they can help out if you're not comfortable changing such settings.

1.Log into router. Using either 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.1 in a browser window that is ( internet Explorer or Firefox)
2. Verify wireless router name( on the computer) >>> ( on/off) ( router status window)
3.Note router name you are connecting to.
4.. Check the laptop do ipconfig /all to see current IP addresses.
5. Set the laptop up in the router by WEP KEY or MAC address. This set up in the "security tab" in the router. using 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 to access through a browser.
6.Note router name you are connecting to.
7. Move the laptop/desktop/MAC about 20ft away and try to log on to the internet.
This is for all routers to set up wirelessly.
8. check for firmware update at the manufacturers site for your model router
9. cell phones, cordless phones, digital TV's, can affect the data signal from a router. Also distance from the router can be a factor. If your router is in a basement place the router to a upper floor and center it in the room.

Can't set up security for Netgear 824

LOL you bought it, you get to figure out how it works.

I used a MAC for a day, and the owner had to tell me how everything works. If you can get to the internet, I imagine you can go to www.routerlogin.com and get access to the Netgear. The Wireless Settings tab on my Netgear brings up text sensitive help on making security and wireless work.

Can't connect!

First of all... Unplug the modem, unplug the Airport (WiFi router) and turn off the Airport connectivity in your MacBook.
After 5 full minutes... Plug in the modem.
Wait 2 full minutes... Plug in the Airport.
Wait 1 full minute... Turn on the Airport connectivity in your MacBook.
After all of that...
If you're still not back up and running and you're using an Apple Airport, open the Applications folder, open Utilities, open Airport Utility.
If you're using any other type of WiFi router, use the Network Diagnostics button that should show up in the web browser window when you try to go to any website.
