Get Netgear 824 wifi working for all computers

I just got my new Netgear 824 router up and running for my primary laptop (a Macbook), but my other Mac laptops are not responding to it. The airports are showing that I'm connected to the router, yet I'm not able to open any web page. Any suggestions?

I decided to return the Netgear as I don't think it is user friendly for Macs (plus I got bounced around by their customer support.) I was told that Linksys may be better for Macs. Thanks for checking.

Yes, same here. Connected to all devices and internet is SLOW but there (neighbor's internet-cable also is fine) and my iBook says it's connected, but I cannot get Firefox or Safari to open any web pages.

Philliplee--What router did you end up with and did it work better??

I just got my Netgear 824 and I was able to connect to it with my pc and my wifi enabled phone but not with my ibook. Solution: when entering the WEP password enter a $, dollar sign, before the WEP password. I tried it and it worked like a charm.

1.Log into router. Using either 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.1 in a browser window that is ( internet Explorer or Firefox)
2. Verify wireless router name( on the computer) >>> ( on/off) ( router status window)
3.Note router name you are connecting to.
4.. Check the laptop do ipconfig /all to see current IP addresses.
5. Set the laptop up in the router by WEP KEY or MAC address. This set up in the "security tab" in the router. using 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 to access through a browser.
6.Note router name you are connecting to.
7. Move the laptop/desktop/MAC about 20ft away and try to log on to the internet.
This is for all routers to set up wirelessly.
8. check for firmware update at the manufacturers site for your model router
9. cell phones, cordless phones, digital TV's, can affect the data signal from a router. Also distance from the router can be a factor. If your router is in a basement place the router to a upper floor and center it in the room.

We have connection but when we put more than one computer online it is as slow as dial up. We are using both PC and Apple laptops one desktop IMac and one laptop MacBook Pro and One PC HP G61-632NR.

This should not be. This router can handle over 151 computer simultaneously. There is a choke point. Turn off you encryption to test this. Make it an open shared network with no encryption authentication. Test it. If it fixes it, use WEP shared encryption Also change you signal channel fro auto to somewhere in the middle of the spectrum...like channel 6 or 7. Also, if there is a cordless phone at 2.4 gigs, near the router, move it somewhere else...this frequency will interfere with it. Mac should not have any problems with its' aircard, so I believe, if all this does not work, that your router is bad<- possible but doesn't happen too much. If you purchase another router and you get sold on the 5 gig spectrum, make sure that the new router is d-link or netgear, and make sure that is is a dual channel 2.4 gig and 5.4 gig. Hope this helps and please don't forget to rate this solution high...thanks.

Can't set up security for Netgear 824

LOL you bought it, you get to figure out how it works.

I used a MAC for a day, and the owner had to tell me how everything works. If you can get to the internet, I imagine you can go to www.routerlogin.com and get access to the Netgear. The Wireless Settings tab on my Netgear brings up text sensitive help on making security and wireless work.

Connecting to a macbook

Hi.

This is all what you just need to do. You need to get you mac address first and edit it using a computer that is currently connect to your router as you are using Mac filtering. To check your mac address :

To find the serial number located on the computer If the MacBook is not turned on, you can open the computer's battery bay to find the serial number.
The MacBook serial number and Ethernet ID (also called a MAC address) are located on the bottom of the computer, underneath the battery, in the battery bay.

New computer hung at "Acquiring network address"

Hi,

Verify that the DHCP feature of the router is enabled. Alternately, you may want to set the PC to use static IP configurations rather than "Obtain an IP address automatically". Sometimes WinXP WiFi configuration messes connections when none WEP or WPA is used.

You may want to fix set your PC's WiFi config to IP Add:192.168.1.2; Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 and Default Gateway: 192.168..1 (that is of course assuming that your NetGear RangeMax WPN824 Router uses the 192.168.0.1 IP add).

If this still does not work, pls post back so we can figure out tricking the WinXP WiFGi config to connect.

Hope this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
