Hmmm...im not sure that u need a bios update. If the bios cant recognize them it should show the size of your old stick. I think by the descripstion you giving here, that the sticks you bough are bad, you can either take them to a pc-store and have them tested or download a program called MEMTEST and run and test them yourself.
My guess is that you bought bad sticks M8

Good luck

    Hi again!

I will try to explain to you how to do the test then:)

    Download this memtest program:

Download - Pre-Compiled Memtest86 v3.4a installable from Windows and DOS

    Its free

After the downloading, burn it on a cd

Then boot up you pc whit the cd in, your pc will now start testing the memosticks insteed of booting up your OS.

If the test shows any failiure, even if it is ONE, then the sticks is bad.

Now, take out one of the two new sticks, replace ot whit the old one you had, that one you know is working good. If you ant given any errors then you kno that the stick you tok out is the bad one, if you ger an error, take out the new one and out in the other new one and run the test again. If you get errors again then you know that both of your new sticks is bad.

Every test takes about 15minits to run.

    Good luck

    Nic

That should work without any problems since the chips are 256. You can either try a bios update or clearing the cmos before trying to boot.

Let me know what happens after you try the above.

    Brandy,

Go to Dell's support site HERE.

Basically you'll need to download the above bios file, insert a floppy into the computer, and then follow the prompts.

Let me know if you have trouble following any of the above.

Dvd/cd rom

It is your dvd drive lense issue .If your computer is in warrenty take it to service shop they replaced dvd drive or lense.
If it is not in warrenty you need to repalce or repair dvd drive lense.

Also you can try 1 more thing pur chase disk cleaner disk and put it in dvd drive then play then it clean dust from dvd drive then check .

sometimes dell has a program that can check your hardware for errors. check all the disks they sent you. It won't be on the name of the disk but it should be on one of them. good luck.

Acer Aspire T-180 Memory Upgrade question

Hello, You might be able to add 2GB more. 1GB per slot. You need to get the model # off your motherboard and verify what the maximum amount of memory it will support. 1GB per slot would be 4GB total but some Operating systems will only support 3GB. So some might be wasted if that is the case. You would need to use the same memory type. So if existing is PC2-4300, use the same. Hope this helps.
