This is really easy to fix
hold down the FN key (its blue)

stop pressing it when the resolution is bright enough

My ASUS PC X55A Notebook turns on and then let me log in but then after I log in the screen goes black and it F8 won't take me to safe mode what do I do?

If the screen goes black it could be a hardware issue, not software. Sometimes the inverter goes on the blink so to speak. It could need replacing. I dont think you have a software issue because you did not say it worked sometimes. Need more information

Erorr 2000-0146 in hard vostro 1050

source/original from dell community

Welcome to Dell Community.
Let me first appreciate the fact that you have tried the steps yourself to isolate the problem.
Error code: 2000-0146 (DST Log contains previous errors) refers to previous errors in the hard drive which might not really be a hardware failure. In order to confirm this, I recommend you to run a custom test on the Hard drive which takes longer time than the Pre-boot System Assessment which you have already performed on the computer but it will give the accurate result.
Once the Pre-boot System Assessment is completed, the computer will give you an option to "Run the remaining memory test", please select "No". Then the computer will launch the 32-bit Diagnostics from the utility partition (if available).
After the diagnostics is launched, in the main menu, please click on "Custom Test", then select the "Hard drive" and click on "Run Tests". If the test completes without any error then the hard drive is fine and PC Restore can be performed to restore the computer back to the factory condition (which will result in data loss).
Please refer to the following article for more information on running the Dell 32-bit Diagnostics Utility: http://dell.to/MNJv4B

Why won't my notebook display any picture on the screen or anything

I assume your screen is completely black and maybe doesn't show the flashing cursor? It could ether be the graphics/video chip at fault, or a hard drive or motherboard fault. It could even be the screen itself.
Does it sound as if your laptop is actually booting up, even though you can see nothing on the screen?
If you can, connect your laptop to a computer monitor (a cable will be required). If your display works on the computer monitor it's probably your video/graphic chip at fault.
If the screen is still black after connecting to an external monitor the chances are that it is a hard drive or motherboard fault.
Don't rush off and buy a replacement hard drive and motherboard. It makes more sense to take your laptop to a shop, pay for an inspection and they will tell you exactly what the fault is.

Computer problems.

You want to start the laptops in "safe mode" When its up and running, run the anti-virus program and see what comes up.

Screen Black can barely see images when boot up

well seems like the lcd has lost or the video card has an issue easy way to find out is to hook it up to a monitor and if the pitcure comes out fine then its your lcd screen and if it appears the same then its your video card.

Screen went almost completely dark, can barely see at all.

I had a similar problem with an HP DV2000 notebook computer. Here's the solution for the HP model DV2040TX: Problem identified and FIXED. Not the screen, not the screen power supply. The problem was the micro-switch within the right-hand-side screen hinge. This switch turns off the screen when you close the lid of the notebook - probably to prevent overheating. The switch had failed mechanically (technical term: "fallen to bits"). As a low-cost fix, I have unscrewed the main casing including the screws inside the battery compartment, removed the silver panel covering the speakers, flicked the switch "ON" using a jewellers' screwdriver, and removed the small metal tongue that is operated by a cam on the hinge. Thus, the switch is PERMANENTLY ON. Computer operates normally, shuts down normally using Windows. Just need to be aware not to close the lid without shutting down the computer beforehand. Hope this helps you. All the best, OzKluger

This is a hardware failure of the LCD back-light or a loose connection which requires partial disassembly to verify. Most likely it will require an LCD replacement. If you have an external monitor you can connect it to the video output so that you can see.
