Question about Bosch 5" Small Angle Grinder

1 Answer

Bosch angle grinder stopped cold when tapped lightly

Only a few hours on my bosch 1800 angle grinder. While using it I lightly tapped it on the ply top bench by mistake. It stopped cold and shows no signs of life. Opened it up and all looks normal, not much dust around switch and all. Could this be a brush backed out by the force of the bump? Bad switch? If it was the switch woud I expect symptoms before it stopped completely?

Thanks for your time. I don't have a volt oh=hms tester, but I do have a continuity tester that makes the user part of the circuit. Would that do? I'll look at the brush springs too.

Before I saw the last post I opened it up and gently manipulated the brush parts and wire contacts near brushes. Reassembled and it works! I read where there is an internal device that cuts the tool out if the brushes are worn for motor protection. I'm guessing that one of the brushes backed out a little, triggering the safety cut out.

    Thanks for your time,

    Rich.

It sounds like you loosened up a wire, If you have a volt ohms meter check the continuity thru the cord to the brush holders. Also check to make sure that the brush spring did not come off the brushes. Let me know

Yes, if you have taken the handle halves apart (unplug tool first) check with your meter thru the blades on the cord to the switch contacts and then lock the switch in the on position and check across the switch and then remove the brush caps and brushes and check thru to the brush holders, if at any time you lose continuity then that would be your problem. Let me know if I can help further.

Misplaced my angle grinder's inner disc flange

If you use a nut, the arbor nut will not hold your grinding/cutting wheel properly and you'll use up threade the arbor nut needs to tighten. What you need is the clamping flange, Bosch part number 3603340501. If you have a tool repair center near you they may have one or can order you one. If not, you can get one on sites like www.ereplacementparts.com.

New brushes arc

you could have a problem with the commutator on the armature being cupped. To remove this you would have to use a commutator stone to clean the surface. I would recommend finding a repair shop. Also just a thought do the brushes move freely in the brush holders and are the springs on top pushing them to maintain pressure. Let me know if you need more assistance

Yep - probably dust build up - have you tried one of those cans of compressed air used for blowing stuff out of computers and stuff. They have a bit more blow than you and a small nozzle to get right it.

I have a Bosch 7-1/2"

I could be a bad plug or a frade power cord. Whith the grinder unplugged make sure the grinding wheel turns by hand. If it does it could be a bad on off switch or the brushes in the motor could be worn.

We use diffrent types of bosch make grinder, we face major and critical problem of armatur coil failure due to gap bertween commutator and coil winding connection gap. we are running above 100 nos of...

I dont think the gap is your problem. I would have to think more of a overloading problem or a power supply. the gap as you call it has nothing to do with the performance. if they are burning up then check for the overload or lack of proper voltage, either one will burn one up

Manufacturers instructions for a 5" bosch angle grinder

Since most manufacturers require a valid model number to obtain a owner's manual, I can't give you the direct link for your 5" grinder without that information.

However, here's a link to the Bosch web site and their manual section where you can enter in your model number and get a free download of the manual you can save on your computer or print out.

I suggest you set up a new folder on your PC titled "household items" and save a copy titled "Manuals" etc. so you will always have a copy for future use and reference.

I hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!
