I only want to use the black ink, not all 4 colors
The black ink is full, the other 3 colors are empty. I only want to photocopy in black ink. It wont let me photocopy unless I replace the colors. I removed the other 3 color cartidges from the copier hoping the machine would read that the black is full and start printing in black. Is there a setting I need to adjust? Please help.

Re: I only want to use the black ink, not all 4 colors
Color printer have sofware installed which stops all printing inless their is ink in all containers. No, their is no way around it. Someone would be rich making a kit to do so. since I see this question over and over at least once a week.

Remove the color cartridges. On one end you can see the opaque ink tank inside the main cart. housing. Cut a piece of black electrical tape to fit around the three sides visible of the ink tank. Make sure the tape fits inside the housing and adheres to the tank itself. This makes the printer think your ink is always full but you can always tell when you need to refill/replace the ink(right?). Good Luck!
you need to print only in black if that is all the ink you have, and also you need to remove the color cartridge as it still registers in the printer as able to be used, although it is empty or near so. Did you remove the tape over the print head fron the new ink cartridge? Do a print head alignment, or use the toolbox icon to tell the printer that you just replaced the cartridge. Some HP models chip the ink cartridges so even a refill wont register as a full tank and the printer wont print. chip needs to be reset (difficult) or just replaced with a new cartridge.
some printers share the ink from color to black but you can select if you wants to use only black just go to printer than properies than select to use only black but you probably have to remove the empty color one
