Turning off and on after few minutes doesn't work. The device doesn't follow any of the commands when I press the Plus Touch.
Is there any way to completely reset the Gigabeat?
    Thank you

How can I do the "Hard reset" o "reformat" the Gigabeat?

  • carlosmar2 Mar 15, 2009

Unfortunately none of the above mentioned suggestions have worked so far. I think that noe the best solution is send the unit for repair. If you know a reliable site please let me know where is it so I will try to contact them for an estimate.

    Thank you.

This is a common fault in the toshiba gigabeat, the control pad button is stuck of the whole keybad is faulty.

I don't remember how much the gigabeat costs as new, have you considered buying a new mp3 player?

well I see 2 solutions here

1. attempt to fix it yourself and inspect the keys by taking the gigabeat apart. possibly replace the keys/keypads NOTE: if you have warranty on the player, use your warranty instead of trying to fix it yourself.

I haven't looked inside this player so I don't know if the keypads are build in to the mainboard or if they are on a replaceable board. Most likely build in, in that case check the buttons carefully that none of them is stuck.

2. send it to gigabeat repairs. From what I hear the RadioShack Repair Centers should be toshiba Authorized. Try contacting a radioshack repair center or toshiba directly.

It seems that there was a problem on the keypad, try to clean the pad, or better send it out for repair.

thank yoiu for using fixya

Hi,

At the bottom of player there is a little battery on/off switch - its tiny and black but you would have needed to switch it on to first use it. Well turn it off here for 10 seconds and the on again. This removes all power from the hard drive and circuits which occassionally freeze.

Thanks.

To reset it, you have to press and hold the menu button for 15 seconds.

Do rate this solution as Fixya as a way of appreciating me.

    Thanks.

I think you can reset the unit by holding the start button for about ten seconds , try that first.

At the bottom of the Toshiba you also find a little switch to turn off the battery Turn it for 10 seconds and the turn on again.
This can unlock the unit unless the mp3 is faulty.

try turning off the battery switch on the bottom of the player. Use a pen point slide it to the left for about 15 seconds, then back to the right.

Gigabeat F40 Frozen.

I had the same problem, would not work and when it did it kept scrolling. Trick is to take the front cover off, and see if the control then works. If so, there are two strips on back of the battery as spacers. I took them off, put back together and have not had a problem since!

Frozen

i'm thinking the hard drive is messing up... you know when i dropped my gigabeat S30 it wasn't working n it was freezing and the video files weren't playing at all. it would freeze when i turn on or play video. then i turned it off and then back on using the battery switch. it said "contact the manufacturer for repair" with a yield sign. i really thought i killed it...but i still had my hopes high to fix it myself somehow n i really thought it was from the hard drive. so i took it in my hand and gave it a shake on my palm. like i actually hit it on my palm for once n then i turned it on and it worked =D fineee.... i was so happy n now it still works fine ;)

i hope that helps

Toshiba gigabeat

gosh! where did you drop the gigabeat?? It must have been a hard fall, or in an awkward position, because I have dropped mine on cement so many times, but it has a tiny scratch on the back and nothing else.

I once had to send my gigabeat in to the company for repairs. They did a pretty good job, fixed it, and sent it back. I would recommend sending it in, because your problem seems out of your control.

Computer does not recognize Gigabeat Device

the solution is simple. Simply Run both Gigabeat watcher and giga-room programs as administrator if u have windows vista.
How to do this :

Click on start in the taskbar at the bottom right of your screen,
then click on all programs,
then click on the Toshiba Gigaroom Folder,
then right click Gigabeat watcher and click on "Run as Administrator"
then right click "Gigaroom" and click on Run as Administrator

and then look in the bottom right of the taskbar, the little Gigabeat watcher symbol should be there with a green square instead of grey. If its green then it means Vista has recognised your gigabeat and u can now transfer music to it via gigaroom. i hope this helps people as i was on the verge of buying XP myself again... Peace all and HAPPY GIGABEATIN!
