Question about Toshiba Tecra A8-S8514 Notebook

Laptop won't start

I have a toshiba tecra a8 that won't start up. I do get power because my LED indicators light up when it's attached to the AC adapter and the power LED lights up after the power button is pressed. After that, nothing- no fan, no noise, no visual on the LCD. Nothing. What may be the problem?

Majority of the time it's the motherboard. You can try booting the computer with the battery out and also try reseatting the memory. Other than that, there isn't much you can do. If neither one of those solutions works, then you can safely assume it's the motherboard and it will need to be replaced in order to get the laptop running again.

You may trying pulling the battery out while its unplugged. Another issue may be the socket where the AC adapter plugs into the laptop. Is it loose, broken prong inside the socket. It should have been able to power up at least for a brief moment just on the battery. Hope this helps ya.

The Toshiba Tecra A8 S8413 laptop cmos battery (or capacitor?) does not seem to be working. Symptoms: I set the date and time. As long as the laptop does not sleep or go into power save mode the clock...

The RTC (Real Time Clock) battery charges when the computer in on (operating). You can plug the electrical cord in and let the computer run for 24 hours by temporarily suspending any sleep mode or automatic power saving features. This should sufficiently charge the RTC battery.
