Question about Dell Dimension 3000® Pentium® 4 2.8GHz, 256MB, 80GB, 48x CD-RW PC Desktop

1 Answer

Attempted to install New 320G hard drive in a Dell Dimension 3000, but the BIOs refused to see the drive at all. Despite double checking jumper settings and using other cables. The OS is Windows XP SP2, but got a screen telling me it would not support drives over 137G ?

Check to see which bios version your computer is using. An update is probably necessary in order for the computer to detect the drive correctly.

If that doesn't work most hard drive manufacturers have software that you can install so that the bios will detect the drive correctly.

What's the make and model of the new drive?

What do I set my CD-Rom Jumpers to in a Dimension 1100

Which is it a Dell 3000 or Dell 1100 ?

The jumper settings on the rear of the DVD drive; set the jumpers to "cable select" mode (if you are uncertain how to set the jumpers, check the documentation that came with your drive or look for a diagram printed on the drive itself). Insert your DVD drive into the selected drive bay and connect the IDE and power cables. Use the screws that came packaged with the drive to secure the component to the drive bay.

I took out my old hdd, and put a new one in with double the GBs.....but now when I turn on my PC, all I get is a blank screen? Won't let me load the OS....

First set your harddisk as master which has operating system.
And set slave as your new added hdd.
You can ser master and slave with jumper settings.
Read diagram on HDD.
Then check .
Also check in bios that your first boot device is your hdd which has os.
Let me know if you need more assistanse.
Thanks.

Hard drive not installed

Did you install this Hard drive,,,did you set the jumper pins in the proper position i.e: Master - Slave - cable select??
If you did nothing to the computer and it's losing the hard drive,,then it could be the Cmos battery going dead,,make thge bios lose it's saved settings.

Computer will not boot, and makes error sounds

If you mean the computer is emitting a series of "beeps", then I would try reseating the memory modules. If that doesn't work, try using only one memory module at a time to determine if one might be defective.

If you mean you need to install windows, you need to set your cdrom drive as first boot device in advanced bios settings or it will try to boot into a non-existent windows. Make sure your hdd is showing as the master drive, save settings and exit bios. Re-boot pc with windows disc in cd drive and hit enter when prompted to boot from cd.
