System Recovery

Hit the Power Button and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see the Safe Mode Options. Select Safe Mode and see if it will boot up. If it does shut down normally and reboot.

Try safe mode again, and this time when it comes up click Start/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore. (If you have windows 7 click Start then type System Restore in the search box and select it when the results are returned). Select a Restore Point (date and time) before you started having problems. Don't worry, System Restore does not delete your data, documents, music, pictures videos or programs (unless the program was installed after the restore point you selected).

System Recovery on the other hand deletes everything and sets your system back to when you first purchased it.

If it happens again on the reboot, get back into safe mode again and see if you can force it to run the check disk utility the next time it starts up. In Safe Mode click Start/Accessories and look for the RUN command. Type cmd and press ok. It will bring up a dos prompt (black screen with white lettering). Type chkdsk /r and press enter. If it says something about drive is locked and it will do it on the next reboot, then select yes.

Read the Manual for System Recovery.

Get online and got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "ASUS Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system when requested. Look for Manuals and search them for System Recovery.

I havy my ASUS K40IN,,my problem is about powering it up,,i'm having trouble of opening up ,i always press the power button very hard, but it takes me time before opening, sometimes when lucky its e

It is possible you have a intermittent power on/off button that is not working properly, remove main battery to see if that will help, if not! unplug power supply from laptop and remove main battery, next press and hold power for 2 minutes to get rid of any residual voltage, now put everything back together and power up.

My asus u52f-bbl9 doesn't want to move past the boot screen

Have you tried booting into Safe Mode?

To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc ora operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot fromit. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with whiteletters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice thepercentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run tocompletion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows.Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair whenthe options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recoveryconsole and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.
If all fails Sounds like your operating system needs to be reinstalled or you can do a system recovery to set it back to when you first bought it.

Ok i have a asus notebook and i'm unsure why at 3am est every morning for about the past week my computer has been freezing but i can still move my mouse but when i go to close a program or window i wont...

3AM is when the Windows Auto Update program runs. Which version of Windows do you run?

Try disabling auto update:

Goto Start > Control Panel> Windows Update and click on Change Settings
Select the radio button next to "check for update but let me choose whether to download and install them"

This way the system will always prompt you for your permission before running the updates

Black screen

hi,
do you see any error or does it go blank after you see the windows logo,
if it goes blank after you see the windows logo, that means that there has been software misconfiguration at the level of windows operating system, restart your system using the power button and wehn you see the asus logo at start start tapping F8 key, it will lead you to a menu that will say boot into safe mode, select safe mode and enter, see if you are able to boot into safe mode, if you are then what we can do is restore your system back to a previous date
to do that in safe mode follow the following instructions

Caution: After a system restore the configurations/software that are done after the restore point will be lost

for system restore
click on start button > go to run > in there type in without quotes
"%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe"

system restore window will open

  1. On the Welcome to System Restore page, click Restore my computer to an earlier time (if it is not already selected), and then click Next.
  2. On the Select a Restore Point page, click the most recent system restore point in the On this list the dat eon which your computer was working, click a restore point list, and then click Next.
Note A System Restore message may appear that lists configuration changes that System Restore will make. Click OK.
  3. On the Confirm Restore Point Selection page, click Next. System Restore restores the previous Windows XP configuration, and then restarts the computer.
  4. Log on to the computer as Administrator. The System Restore Restoration Complete page is displayed.
  5. Click OK.

Waking up after going to sleep

I have had similar problem. I found, by trial and error, that using Windows hibernate mode actually works every time! Windows makes a "System screen shot" and stores it on hard drive and then powers off. Just be aware that you must ensure enough hard drive space for this. I am using this mode every day now.
