Re: Red is off focus
Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
Screen looks 3D
Colors don't line up
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed or warped.
Here is a quick test....
Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.
Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.
You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.
If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.
You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

This is for if the lines are thin and arc. You need to turn down the screen voltage for the blue and red CRT. I don't remember if the focus block is in the front or in the back of the tv on this model. Most projections have them in the front.
You could check the back access panel and look for a black box with six knobs as descibed in step 3 below. This is what you are looking for.
follow the steps below if it is located in the front:
1) Remove the front grill 2) There should be access panel you need to remove once you remove the front grill. This is where the screen voltage adjustment is located 3) Look for a small black box with six knobs on it. One row is for "Focus" and one row is for "screen". It will be marked, but probably need a flashlight to see which row it is. There will be a "R", "G" and "B" next to each knob to represent Red, Green Blue respectively.
4) Careful with the access panel removed, you are only inches away from very dangerous voltages. 5) slowly turn the R or B knob counterclockwise until the lines on the screen disappear. Keep your hands away from everything else and only use one hand near the tv. put the other hand behind your back.
6) Once corrected, replace the panel and put the grill cover back on.
First look on back of your TV find Model# and chassis Then POST it again here! In the mean time you have a focus and screen drive control Block On your [Deflection Board the one that has FBT flyback Transfomer it will have 2 wires comin out of it one will fo to control box there will be 3 contros on top R/G/B for focus and 3 controls R/G/B below them for screen drive to each TUBE adjust them.
You may have a bad blue picture tube but there is a way to deal with
this first---This is a 2003 model ---I
did one of these with the same problem a week ago---the set has a black
plastic block with six controls---three are Focus(red, green, blue)
the other 3 controls are Screen controls(red, green, blue) Someone has
to remove the entire piece on the front of the set below the
screen(usually a plastic part) most of the time it is secured with 3
screws on either side of the set in the back; once you remove the
screws the entire piece should pull out(pull from right to left(it will
not fall off or come out easy--it is held in with several large plastic
pegs) With it removed there is an inspection plate with 4
screws-----the screen/focus block is behind it.
You need to look
very closely at the block to identify the focus versus screen
controls----one row left to right will be marked Focus and the other
row left to right will be marked screen------YOU need to locate the
Blue Screen control(they are black like the block) With the set on(be
careful) go to a video
input with nothing connected---if you see a blue screen as well as the
input number turn the BLUE SCREEN CONTROL SLOWLY TO THE LEFT UNTIL THE
BLUE is gone.
If this cures the problem you may only be buying
yourself some time----if the blue picture tube is bad sooner or later
this trouble may return----I have seen sets where this was adjusted and
the set worked for a year or more with no repeat of the
trouble----replacing the blue tube would likely cost you 400 - 500
parts and labor.
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR NEED ADVICE LET ME KNOW- I am here to help people.
You have a convergence problem
If the set has auto focus and will not complete its cycle.
The Auto focus module is bad, (expensive)
If it completes and the problem is still there.
Then check for bad conv. drivers (stk****) or cold solder joint on one or more of the 3 drivers pins.
use the advanced options page and reset the factor blue and red convergence defaults then do re apply the auto color defaults color at first it seemed very red (which is good because red was the missing factor in the green picture) but after reseting all the color and tints to the normal ranges I then reset the color auto correct again and all seems fine.
You can turn up the Screen controls in back of set. Look for the focus block that has 6 controls on it. 3 are for the screen and 3 for the focus, in each color Red, Blue, Green. need to turn evenly to keep color balanced. On set turn color all the way down and then get a good black and white picture.
