Question about Kenmore 50522 / 50524 Side by Side Refrigerator

Whirlpool start device

I have a Kirkland side-by-side fridge made by whirlpool. The start device relay (2212194) fried itself so I went to my local parts store and bought a replacement (8201786). Problem I have now is the instructions say to use part 2187145 for the EGY80 and the 2154697 for the EGY90. I have the EGY90 so I looked for the 2154697 but it wasn't part of the kit. There are two relays in the kit and they are 2188829 and 2188830, which the instructions say to use for a different style.

These new relays are similar to my old one but the connections are way different, and the only way that I could ever connect them would be to cut off the old connectors on the wires and install completely different ones. The new relays appear that they would install onto the compressor OK, it's the wires that come from the different plugs and components that would plug onto the front side of the relay that are different.

When I called the place that sold the kit to me they said that that was the correct kit that was called for for the part number that gave them. Plus, there are several other components in the kit. One small black part that I have no idea where it would go, and these two other white and black parts that appear the same as what's already part of the relay. What am I supposed to do with these?

Am I supposed to reterminate the wiring in order to make this new relay fit?

Thanks, but I finally figured out that the small black thing was the ptc relay that I needed.

Yes, you were correct in assuming that the old one I removed was a one piece white plastic housing that contained the ptc relay and the overload. That was what was confusing about all of this. I was expecting to replace the old one with a similar one, but that wasn't the case. My new install was a separate ptc relay and overload. Once I got that all sorted out I was able to install the existing wiring without having to install new terminals and it is now making cold air like before.

    Thanks for the help.

K here we go, thinkkn we can get this to work for you.

the difference is going to be the white overloads in the bag9s). depending on size of compressor they will change, as far a s the relay thinkin ther is onl one in that bag'box/ (brown with 3 possible connections..
if this is the cas e ill asume that the old relay/overload was a onepiece white plastic with smaller connectors.. .you will need to cut off and resplice a new spade connector on the wires to fiut the new piece..
the extras are just that extras, its easier for them to stock and store one part number for a multitude of repairs( youll need only one)

do you mean the compressor won't start and you hear a clicking sound every few minutes?if so most likely the start device on the compressor is bad,you have to send the model number off of the machine,if it's a bottom mount or side by side, open the fridge door and look on the right side wall up near cieling and you'll see a tag with model and serial numbers,if the freezer is a top mount open the fridge door and look on the left side wall up near cieling and send model number so someone can look up your machine.have you vacuumed out the coil,if the coil is filled with dust the machine will run hotter than normal and can damage the start device and the compressor.

Whirlpool side-by-side won't get cold, compressor clicks on-off.

Sounds like the start relay OR the compressor is no good. Have a service tech look at it, because there may be a capacitor in the circuit, which could be dangerous for you to fool with.

Whirlpool fridge not cooling gone warm air blowing

more than likely the compressor is not starting, it has a starting device on the left side of the compressor which has a relay/overload called a relay, remove the relay and shake it , if it rattles it has gone bad. the relay/overload combination has gone bad and can be replaced with pro41 relay. if the compressor has a run capacitor just eliminate the capacitor when replacing with new relay. connection of the two wires makes no difference.

If your referring to the compressor start relay the part number you need is 8201786 and can be purchased thru any local appliance parts dealer also you could check or thru whirlpool.
this is a plug and play part for the majority of whirlpool refrigerators and there are good instructions included with the part.
good luck Peyton

Whirlpool gold refridgerator light not working and is making funny noise

Had the identical symptoms with my Whirlpool Gold GS6SHEXNB00 side-by-side refrigerator. Had a technician come on site, indicated it was the "circuit board/ timer" (Whirlpool part # 1394052). Board is accessible from behind fridge (lower left side in a white plastic housing to left of compressor).

Swapped the board out (noticed a scorched circuit on the old circuit board). Lightbulbs now work, temperature readouts also good to go.

Fridge not cooling

Most of the time on a whirlpool the problem is the relay on the compressor sometimes called the start device. I would replace that first. If you need help finding the part let me know. I will need the complete model # from the sticker inside the fridge section. You can look it up with diagrams at
