Question about Bosch 2400ES LP AquaStar 6.4 GPM Indoor Tankless Liquid Propane Water Heate

1 Answer

Venting of Bosch 2400es in the basement

I would like to install Bosch 2400es in the basement. The 3" vent would come out at about 2" above the ground. Is there some kind of extension pipe I can use? The book states vent must end when it comes outside? I would like to raise it about 1 foot outside.

It often flashes ea or af and doesnt want to light

Before calling service technician, open following links for troubleshoot resources including common error codes, Bosch contact information, link to service manuals, and possible product manual

Call Bosch 800-642-3111
Multiple error codes can mean PC board failure.
AF might be A9, but not sure.
EA is 'no flame ionization detected with water flow'
  1. Verify that all manual gas shut off valves are open.
  2. Check gas type.
  3. Reset error code and open a water tap to cycle the heater in an effort to purge air on new installations. Cycling hot water tap on and off multiple times may be necessary. If heater still faults with EA error code, have a licensed gas technician properly purge air out of the gas line leading to the water heater.
  4. Check three wire connections to ignition group on the lower front of the heat exchanger are secure.
  5. Check gas pressure.
  6. Check venting specifications are met. Improper venting may cause premature failure of the flame sensor rod.
  7. Check that the minimum power fan speed has been adjusted to the proper value.
  8. Observe inside the viewing window of the heat exchanger when a hot water tap is opened. Sparking should be followed by a steady blue flame. If flame is unstable or yellow with proper gas pressure.

My Bosch AquaStar 240 NG tankless began throwing an error A2 and cuts off. I followed the trouble shooting guide, cleared the filter (which was pretty clogged), checked the fuse with a multmeter, fuse...

Hi,

  1. Check for flue gas leakage around the top and bottom seals of heat exchanger as well as the viewing window. Look for any noticeable burn marks or warping of the gaskets. If a leak is detected, seals will need replacing.
  2. Verify that venting meets specifications outlined in chapter 3.6 of the installation manual. Long vent lengths, incorrect venting material, venting with more than three elbows, blocked vent or combination venting may cause this failure. Verify backdraft flapper inside flue gas collector is not stuck shut.
  3. Check flue gas limiter wire connectors for tightness. Clean with pencil eraser if any corrosion is evident.
  4. Trace wires from flue gas limiter to black connector. Verify the connection is tight.
  5. If limiter is tripped due to overheating, it must cool down before error will clear on the control board.
If your connections are good and the CO2 level has not been an issue in the past you can start getting into replacing parts. Bosch technical help water line may help a little but they will want all of the make, model, serial number business as well as owner name before helping, at all. If your unit can be repaired a good technician is the answer.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Why does the pilot light blow out on the water

Your vent pipe needs a cap. You should be able to find one at your local building supply store; just tell them your problem, and they will find the right product and let you know how to best install it.

Model????? The 635Es, 250SX and 2400E are same. The 2400ES and 2700ES are World 2 heaters. Any error codes as I can't imagine this problem w/o codes. Flow initiated but you have spark. Is there any ignition? If so flame rod may be bad and not reporting ignition. Igniter sets on some early 2400/2700 have proved to be bad. Water pressure has zero to do with this. If you have an EC or EA code you have gas problems (meter, line size/length or gas valve). Also if 3005 or 3007 Software you can pull the last 5-10 error codes from Controller.
You need to call Bosch and get an RSA out there. This is a gas appliance that if you screw up can destroy your house. FYI any water in the gas valve condemns it. It will not dry out and work correctly. Is the fan running at ignition and/or purge? Any Controller errors require replacement. You have 2 years on parts warranty from installation date so don't screw around trying to DIY. Warranty Labor is not covered.
Flue obstruction? If you used the AQ3 installation Kit you have the wrong termination box to prevent freeze up and/or water penetration You need the Z-Vent drop nosed termination. Look for a fine tan dust in the fan intake (brown plastic) the intake throat or in passageway to the gas valve. Call Bosch unless you're a Gas Tech this is beyond you.

Unit overheated due to fan malfunction.

Again EA or EC error codes? To unplug the fan you really have small hands. Fan is a unit not just motor, explosion proof and costs over $330.
If that was a popping or staccato noise it wasn't the fan but the gas valve. Sounds like water penetration which condemns the gas valve a $237 part which FYI DIY you can't replace unless you're a Tech.
What's with your warranty?
The pilot in an electronic Bosch doesn't exist, it's lite by a spark . igniter.
This is a Gas Appliance which requires a RSA to service.
If water penetration then change your termination box to drop dead by Z-Vent. We change dozens of these (GV's) a year due to this crappy box. These units work best when Direct Vented.
