Alohabob will indeed do the job for you. The latest version appears to be 6.0, and I found one used for cheap at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Alohabob-Relocator-Ultra-Control-6-0/dp/B000BNKBAK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1236631256&sr=1-1
says that the USB transfer cable is included so that 1 purchase should be all you need. Hope this helps!
Please rate, thanks!

I seem to be confused, I believe I answered both of your questions for you. Your two questions were 1. Will AlohaBob PC relocator do the job for me and 2. Current version including USB bridge cable. My answers were 1. Yes this will do the job you want it to and 2. Current version is 6.0 and it does include the USB transfer cable.

How to get more disk space on an old dell computer XP

Support for XP has ended, the operating system is 14 years old, It's time for an upgrade.
There is probably a lot of things wrong with the laptop and not worth messing around with.
I would suggest backing up any files you wish to keep and get yourself a newer laptop!!

How do you transfer settings and files to a new PC?

Hi Anita,

First and foremost, you should perform a COMPLETE back up of your computer's drive(s) to either CDs, DVDs, Thumb drive(s) or other external drive(s).

Only after you have done this, should you proceed. Microsoft offers an "Easy Transfer Wizard" but there are limitations of what it can do. The most significant of which is the INABILITY to move applications that were previously installed on the Windows XP machine. There is no program I know of that will move installed applications to a new computer and new OS. What it WILL do is move the DATA that was created by these programs; leaving you to reinstall the applications manually again in your new Windows 8 machine. It also moves your photos, music etc - but no applications.

You should download a version of the Wizard that is specific to the OS of your old machine - WinXP (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=7349).

Here's a link that details the process: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/transfer-data-from-old-computer-to-windows-8

I hope this helps and good luck!

I have a old gateway pc and I would like to install a Hard Drive from a Dell pc into it. Can it be done?

Swapping the hard drive from the Dell into the Gateway will not work because the Dell hard drive has been installed with Dell specific drivers and configurations.
When you install the Dell hard drive into the Gateway you need to wipe the hard drive and install a fresh copy Windows XP onto this hard drive and the Gateway device drivers etc.

I bought a new laptop from Dell. My old on is a desktop from Dell. I have a Belkin transfer cable. It is asking for a transfer key number. what is that????????

Please note that your cable will support below givne O/S check at your end.

One destination PC running Windows 7 (32- or 64-bit) and available USB port

One source PC running Windows® XP (32- or 64-bit) or Windows Vista® (32- or 64-bit) and available USB port

For Example two Pcs 1 is Xp and other pcs is Windows 7, then try to connect between both .

Another one more option is there for transfering the data between two systems either laptop or Desktop by a cross cable (LAN CABLE), buy a cross cable from shop and insert into RJ45 Socket (i.e lan socket) the try to transfer the datas.

Both Windows XP and Windows 7 have a "Settings and File Transfer Wizard". Run the wizard on the "old" computer, and say that you are running it on the old computer, and it will save all your files.
Transport the files to your new computer (DVD-writer or USB memory-stick) and run the wizard, and say that you are running it on the new computer, and "import" your files & settings.

I want to have xp on my vista gateway laptop

Hello, Its really hard to downgrade from vista to XP on dell laptops. vista and XP use completely different drivers and dell has stopped writing drivers for XP. But still you can downgrade. You need to setup external SATA harddrive from where your XP CD should boot as it wont boot from your current harddrive that has vista. Even if you set these up and downgrade, Since dell has stopped writing drivers your new XP will not work with many new softwares and applications as you wont have drivers for them. I would advice you to use Vista. Good luck, Please rate the solution. ~regards, Jegan

If the machine is a Dell with DellControlPoint, open start, run then type msconfig and hit enter. Choose the Startup tab and find the startup item named "Dell" with the Command from "C:\Program Files\Dell\Dell Control Point\Connection Manager\Dell.UCM.exe" and uncheck the box. Hit Ok, then reboot your computer.
