I am afraid to say but it sounds like your blu ray laser has become faulty. Unfortunately this is a very common problem for the PS3 and there is not much that can be done about it. New lasers can be bought but they are difficult to fix. You could buy a new drive from somewhere like ebay at a cost of around £60. They are much easier to fit than the lasers themselves but you must make sure you keep the circuit board on your blu ray drive and swap it to the replacement drive as this is paired to the motherboard and will not work if it is not with the original motherboard.
The blue ray drives are system specific. You won't be ablt to just trade oout the drives, you need to keep the logic board from your old drive and put it on the new drive. They all have a code that matches the motherboard and dvd drive logic board.
I reciently had a simular issue. If you higlight the "Game" headding from the main page and in the little preview box you can see the Game you just need to reset the HDMI setting's. as HDMI carries sound and picture it looks like the game is not reading/ loading. If you can not see the game it may be your Blue ray lense. I hope this Helps.
Try playing a Demo game, if you dont have any download it from playstation network. The point is just to force the sytem to play games and if you notice, movies and games are listed under a different folder in the icon's list, so playing a demo game will force the system to play the game and you should be able to play your games fine after that,. Thing is that a game's info might've got stuck in freeze mode when the system was shut off unproperly while a game disk was still inside, that's all. Good luck, dont wanna see any PS3 comrades suffering the unspeakable horridness of not been able to play games. Be strong my friend.
