F&P E442B - Knocking/cracking noise

Loud knocking/cracking noise when fridge is running, only way to stop it is by opening fridge door. I've checked that both fans are working and not iced up.

It is probably the buildup of ice around the condensor (located behind white panel in freezer). I chekcked mine and the ice had pushed the panel oajar and the condensor unit was out of place too. All due to the excess buildup of ice. I removed the ice tonight.. will tell you if this fixes noise problem. Also our fridge was not cooling ..freezer ok.. hope this fixes this problem too- otherwise i'll test the fan (located behind panel in freezer compartment.

You need to make a vacuum breaker, break a lollipop stick in half and attach to the gasket at the bottom of the fridge door, that should sort it.

We had the same problem with our Whirlpool side by side and it turned out that the water line was knocking on the back of refrigerator; so my husband covered it with the round form tubing and Quiet. Try it.
I have encountered another problem just last night - while cleaning my refrigerator I noticed that on the ride side of the internal wall of my refrigerator is cracking. Does anyone know if there was a recall or is there coils running inside this liner. I called Whirlpool and I have to call tomorrow and give them my serial and model number. But then I chatted with a person online from whirlpool and he said, unfortunate nothing we can do it will be a sore eye...I don't think so I told him after spending a couple thousand do you thing I will take this attitude from you. That is when I called their Corporate office in Michigan. Our refrig is just turning 7 years old and I have had refrigerators that have last 15 plus years. Something is just not right.

Continuous knocking noise from ice maker. Ice maker has been off for past 3 months. Only thing that will make it stop is turning it off or unplugging it.

Hi Marcel,
Thank you for contacting fixya.

Our ice maker recently had its water inlet freeze up, preventing water from filling the trays. The mechanism kept dutifully trying to push nonexistent ice cubes into a bin that never filled up, which might account for the knocking noise in your case.
To defrost it we just unplugged the unit, took all the food out of the freezer section, and left the door open for a couple of hours. It wasn't long enough for any of the frozen food to defrost, and since we were careful to minimize opening the refrigerator section's door, the food in that part stayed cold enough to be safe as well.

How do I stop the loud knocking noises coming from my refridgerator?

Pull the fridge away from the wall and inspect the compressor. Your description sounds like the compressor is hitting something. It is rubber mounted and usually can be pushed away from whatever it is hitting. You do not want to jamb something to stop the noise, as the compressor needs to move freely. Many compressors shake during start up and shutdown, and this is considered normal. Abnormal if the compressor hits something during this movement.

Kitchenaid refrigerator / freezer knocking noise

Hmmm. Makes sure it is not the fan inside the freezer. The compressor is not capable of loud noise since it is sealed and sits on rubber mount. The knocking might be due to the fan blade hitting ice build up. You should not see any frost in a freezer. If there is frost, you can defrost completely then set the fridge to a lower setting.

Knocking noise coming from Whirlpool Gold refrigerator

I also have a new Whirlpool Gold fridge (bottom freezer with French doors) and it was making a knocking sound. The knocking sound would start when the fridge kicks in and starts running to cool, and would last for about a minute or less and be a slow knock.
I called Whirpool customer service since it is new and on warranty. They sent out a technician and he said the knocking is from gas/air built up in the copper tubing for the freezer because the copper tubing is too cold, and when the fridge first turns on it forces the air through, making the knocking sound.
His "fix" was to adjust the copper tubing so that it is closer to the heat of the motor/compressor and heat of another copper line so that the cooler line stays warm so the air/gas doesn't build up. His fix worked slightly, but the fridge is still knocking, just not as bad and not as long - it knocks fast for about 5 to 10 seconds instead of a minute.
Going to call customer service again soon and see where to go from here.
