These decks need a complete overhaul. There are belts and "idlers" inside that are made from rubber that have dried out and slip. The Rx-303 needs a tire replacement. This tire only comes into play when in play mode. The FF and REW functions are powered only by a belt. Changing hte idler tire is a bit tricky in these units if you have not replaced one before. Given the value of these units, I'd recommend that you have a servicer in your area overhaul these. The parts expense should not exceed $15 for either deck. Check in the area for the labor costs. Both units are definately worth the repair cost.

follow this same reset process for your deck
hold the power button for 15 sec. for a system reset. Try to remove each panel that opens and check for broken pieces of paper Recycle the system by reinstalling the software once again. If you getting error codes then follow this We need to clear out these error codes stored in your printer NVRAM or memory! Shut down the printer and pc associated with it. Remove data cable and reinstall the software for this printer, press and hold the power button on the printer for 15 seconds, then reconnect the printer after software installation is successful. This process will clear the error codes that you keep receiving.

It could be the take up spindle does not have enough torque causing the tape to bunch up after the capstan. If you open up the unit you will notice ether belts or rollers for the tape drive. If it has belts you can replace the belt after cleaning the pulleys. If it has rollers you may be able to clean them with a rubber cleaner (not alcohol which will dry the rubber and cause glazing). Make sure the capstan and the pinch roller is clean using a rubber revitalizing cleaner on the pinch roller. "Goof off" from a hardware store is great for the capstan if it has a lot of metal oxide on it.
