Question about Panasonic PT-53WX53 53" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

Vertical lines on a panasonic PT-53WX53G Chassis AP825

I was trying to help a friend fix his TV. The picture was distorted so I took a shot at changing the STK chips since that fixed the problem with my set earlier back. It was a successful repair however a new problem has come into play. The TV works great for and hour or two, after that, the screen goes to all bluish green lines going vertically about every 1/4 inch or so covering the whole screen (the lines are from the blue and green guns). It has done it with red also but only once. It over powers any feed (DVD, Cable, ect.) and makes it look almost like a negative. It also does it on all the inputs regardless weather there is anything hooked up or not. The weird thing is, the menu works fine (it displays over the problem). It almost looks like a stray signal coming from somewhere. Once this happens, it will only return back to normal once the set has been off for several hours. I tried wiggling and moving the board around suspecting a loose connection but it didn't change. I am guessing a heat related problem but I don't know where to start looking. I tried blowing air over certain areas with no effect. I have pictures of this problem if needed. Just leave me an address I can send them too. Any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

Which one is the A board? Is it one of the boards that clip into the
main boards? I have several pics of the set. Let me know if you need
    any. Thanks, Joe

I have seen that symptom caused by bad caps on the A board look at the tops of the capacitors for any sign of swelling or puffiness on the tops.

The A board is the large green board on the left side when looking in the rear of the set

Ghosting in Red, Green and blue

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer2_bing.gif Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Picture shows only about a 2-3" blue, green,or red vertical line down the middle

If your seeing vertical line across the screen you need to check the components in the vertical stage as well as the vertical IC could be bad, or the yoke could open.
Also check if any voltage reaching the vertical stage.

Good luck.
