Vivitar ViviCam 5 Digital Camera

Camera problem

By Brad - usenet poster

Bit OT but, have a Vivitar Vivicam 5385 camera which for the last couple of
months have been using quite happily then connect via usb to download
pictures. Last week connected it and nothing happened, no programme comes up
to download photos. Tried 2 different cameras and programmes come up to
downlaod them so pc software ok. Took the card out of the vivitar and
downloaded the pictures by putting the card in another camera to do so. Have
sent query to Vivitar who after 5 days ask me if I have another usb
connection. Will probably have to wait another 5 days for another gem of
wisdom from them. Question, does it sound like there is a fault in the usb
cable? the other cables I have do not fit the Vivitar so can not try them.
Is there a way of testing the cable?

Put the storage card (whatever kind) back into the camera and use the
camera's function to format the card.

Put simply, when it is done in the camera, the OS is more likely to
recognize the device as a camera storage device than as a general
storage device.
