Question about Dell Latitude D600 Notebook

Dail-up server doesn't answer from my home phone

I have a Dell Latitude D600 with Win XP. I have used PeoplePC dial up for several years. A week ago, I was on-line and lost connection twice. when I tried to connect the next day, after the modem would ring in,I got an error message saying the remote computer was not answering. I have had several conversations with the techs at PPC and they have checked all my settings. I had my phone line checked and it was OK. My phone provider is Verizon. When I take my computer to a shop that uses ATT phone lines, it dials into PPC with no problem. I still cannot get an answer from the remote computer when I dial from home and I have tried several different numbers and I have tried a temporary dial up connection. Any suggestions? I'm not sure who to contact next, or what questions to ask.

What if you dial the same phone number from your phone instead of the computer. Do you get a ring...static sound? It could be a problemw ith your phone provider

ok, tricky problem. How many line ports do youahve in your house? Hope more than two. if you would like to eliminate possibilities, you can try connecting your mdoem to the toher port in your house and try dialing.

Please let me know if this works...

I appologise i cannot be of more assistance. I have worked for Netzero internet service and the only think i can think of is a problem with your phone like although your phone company says it is ok.

I have previously asked my clients to try and get a friends laptop or desktop and try the dialup from their house and see if it works. Not sure if this is an option for you but will eliminate a problem with your PC.

    Good luck

I have old model computer of wipro but i have not sound driver in this cmpter

With XP home or pro, the sound card may require service pack 2 (at least) or 3 to operate correctly. If your are unable to install the service packs, ( not enough space on your hard drive, say 20 g. or less), then you will need to locate an older style sound card that ran off of win 98, this will still work with your xp set up. This information comes to you from someone who spent hours at a computer store, to finally find out this answer

Hi Chad,

It sounds like it could be 1 of 2 issues either the memory or your hard drive may be failing.

Please do the following:

Turn on the computer. When the DELL logo appears, press immediately. If you wait too long and the Microsoft Windows logo appears, continue to wait until you see the Windows desktop. Then shut down your computer and try again.

When the boot device list appears, highlight Diagnostics and press .

Please choose the express test and post the results.

Probably. Look for a replacement battery on eBay. I have threee d600s and about a year ago I bought aftermarket batteries on eBay that work fine for about 1/3 the cost of a genuine Dell.

I have seen this issue before.
You could attempt to disable Audio Hardware Acceleration.

You can try setting up a new internet connection through the internet connection wizard, but you will probably need a disc from Sprint in order to do this.
