Problem

a computer I have is locking up after being on awhile! I'm thinking CPU
overheating but I thought they ussually reset! I also suspect the PS since
it is underpowered at 90watt! Ideas?? (win98)

Actually I was wrong, its a 70 watt power supply! This info I found on this
Gateway said 90 but the label on the PS says 70. Gateway are junk!

MM's guideline: Start with 200W and add 50W for every 2 drives. [All-in-1,
p. 332]. Later in the book he states you should go with 230W-250W to start
with. I haven't seen a 90W PS in a long time. I'm surprised it doesn't
lock up immediately. I've run into low-wattage PS problems that manifest in
different and unpredictable ways; i.e. - resets, lockups, and even complete
shutdowns. Also, don't forget that the PS fan assists in providing cooling
and air flow within the case.

My guess would be Dell circa '92, or Gateway circa '9x? ;-)

90watts, you should have at least 200- 250 for a PC. Mine is 350 and it can
handle all my needs.

your suspicion of the power supply would be my first guess also, especially
if you are dealing with a higher end CPU.
