Hey thanks, for the response....I checked the motherboard and the capacitors all look good. There is only one video output and I am not sure if the video card worked or not. Everything appears to work I just don't understand why the output doesn't work.

    A few questions:

Did the video work before and just now stopped working or did you buy this machine without it working?

Does your Dell have two video outputs or just one?

Open the case and look at the motherboard for popped, swollen or leaking capacitors. They look like little cylinders. The tops should be perfectly flat, no bulges.

This may explain why the output does not work. Sometimes on these Dells there was an onboard video port (that was useless unless you had a video card installed) and a slot for a video card, so you would have two video ports. Now the DELLs that I have worked with in this case, you had to have a video card in the video slot or the onboard video would not work. I know it sounds weird but I bought one from the Goodwill Thrift store like that and it would not give me anything until I put a video card in the slot. Also another weird thing about these DELLs is that once you put a video card in you could only use of the video ports or the other, not both. I wanted to run a dual monitor setup but couldn't using it that way.

Quick look at info form DEll gx150 Dell Search All Dell com shows me your motherboard is useing 40 pin ATA interface. So you need to be sure the drive is set to "master" or "Slave" and plugged into the ribbon for the interface in correct order. Master is located at the end of cable, slave is in the middle of the ribbon. Drives also have jumping pins that need to be set for Master and slave. There is a difference from one manufacturer to another. But the info is on the drive itself most time. Look close at the label on the drive for the settings for slave mode.

What is the cause of our hard drive constantly making a high pitched humming sound. Dell Optiplex GX150 Pentium 3, 996 mhz, 512 mb

That is likely the sound of a hard drive getting ready to have a mechanical crash from which there is practically no recovery. If I were you, I'd backup everything important off of your drive and don't forget your favorites from your browsers, email if you use email that's not web-based, photos, docs etc and back up your importand info to disks or an external removable drive, and prepare for an impending demise of that drive- especially in light of how old that computer is if that's the original hard drive. Think of it like the sqweak that disk breaks make to warn you that they're almost gone. Better back that drive up soon. I wouldn't wait as it could crash at at any time. Once you've backed up all your filse run scan disk and do a defrag, and virus scan and you'll know better what the situaqtion is with that drive

OptiPlex GX150 series. Diskette Drive 1 Seek Failure. Primary Hard drive 1 Not found. Secondary Hard drive 1 not found.

Sounds like a hard drive failure. It is fairly easy to purchase a new hard drive and put it in, but then you must have the software to re-install everything. If you are a bit concerned about doing these things, take your PC to a PC Repair shop and they will install a new hard drive and put a new operating system on it. Depending on how old the Desktop is, you may want to buy a new PC as the old motherboard may fail on you in the next 6-months to a year. Check your gut on this.

Your problem has nothing to do with the front panel connections. Maybe it's a cd rom's problem, ATA cable problem or bios settings problem. First of all make sure that your drive is set up correctly as primary or slave at the channel. Some motherboards have problems when the cd rom is master and the hard disk is slave. If the master - slave is correct, check the bios settings and, if the problem exists, avoid AUTO settings; change the proper channel at cd/dvd rom.
In case of a problem post me back your drives configuration too (hard disks and cd/dvd rom).
If you are satisfied, rate my solution with the "thumbs" or (even better) add a testimonial.

My optiplex gx150 is telling me that the primary hard disk drive 1 is not found what can I do

This message means that the BIOS is unable to find a drive with an Operating System to boot from.

Typically this means that the IDE cable that connects from the motherboard to the Hard Drive is not connected

It may also mean that there is no power cable plugged into the Hard Drive.

Check those first.

Dell optiplex gx150 cd drive won't boot

Hmmm--when you went into the BIOS setup, your first boot device should be CD. The next your hard drive. The other boot devices should be set to disabled. Now if you have a third boot device as a network device, then your computer is not seeing the CD or the Hard drive--you have a problem. If all the drives are hooked up properly (sounds like you have that covered) then your motherboard is probably the problem.
I would try to disconnect all your stuff except the CD. Try it on the first IDE channel (set it either as cable select or master). If that fails, try it on the other channel. Do you have a second CD to swap out?
Still no boot? Bad motherboard.

Contact Dell technical support to get the CD read the partition on your hard drive to restore to factory settings. It won't be able to work without one since it has to boot from the CD in order to get it to work.

Dell system restore

Depending on the operating system, most of the time it is located in the start menu, programs, accessories, then system tools. Restore is a process that takes the computer back to a specific date and time called a checkpoint. Reformat is a process by erasing the entire hard drive and re installing the version of windows you are running.
