Going on a long haul flight, figured I should get an mp3 player for extended
music.
I like the idea of solid state - but they just don't hold enough unless you
fork out heaps
So get an MP3 discman I figure - average CD can hold what - 125 to 150
songs?
But whats a good one
Napa DAV 311? ($181 at pp)
Sony MP3 CD Walkman ($299 at dse)
Any others?
Would prefer to spend < $200

Is that the 311 model?
I am thinking of getting the later (but cheaper) 314 model.
Does it skip when you jostle it say exercising or just if you knock it a
bit?

The Napa players don't seem to have very good shock protection.
(well, at least, mine doesn't)

I have used the Creative m100, a Philips Expanium (I think
EXP213 was the model) and the Sony from Dick Smith.
The Creative produced good sound quality and featured a backlit
display, which the other models lacked. However, it seemed to
have a major problem with skipping. It would only skip about
once every 15 minutes, but I couldn't alleviate this problem
no matter what sort of CD-RW I used. I would also have to say
that the controls were confusing and the random playback
feature would always play songs in the same sequence every
time (although it would start at a different point in the
sequence each time).
The Philips seemed alright initially, but the build quality
was very poor. The hinges and locking catch on the drive door
were very brittle.
The Sony was by far the best. Good sound quality, easy to
use and no skipping. I would recommend it.

I bought a Riovolt sp250 cd/mp3 player last july and it rocksI play it 5
or 6 days a week 8 or 9 hrs a day and it's never missed a beat ( I operate
heavy machinery in a Logging crew so it gets a bit of abuse )
Ok it's a wee out of your price range but I can't speak highly enough of it.
I imported it from the US & it cost me $ 400 nz to get it to my front
door...be even less now with the high value of the dollar.

The Artdio ones look quite good, but I've never seen one in action though.
Quick search turned one up for $150 or so - has anyone tried one of them?
