When you just switch on the computer look out for the first screen(before windows even starts up).and try to quickly read usually it will tell you what button to press.depending on the make its usually f12 or del but first check what your model says.

Thanks Andre, but I have no problem entering BIOS setup w/F2, F12 only does boot order. It's a known good drive, just wiped it out w/a PC tool and now it doesn't see the drive. My other computer lets me setup the hard drive in bios manually if I wanted, this one doesn't and just my luck, the diagnostic tool that wipes the disk clean, doesn't let you partition etc...it.
    Thanks, Dan

Tear it down to the bios battery and remove then replace it. This will reset the bios to factory and wipe all preboot passwords out.

Toshiba satellite 5105-s607 insert system disk error. Every time put o.s disk in keeps saying same message.

Log into the bios and change the boot order to boot from the CD - it will then boot up your CD system Disk first
As the PC boots - you should see a message to get into bios/setup usually F10, F2 or del key varies buy manufacturer
then look for the bios section for boot order and make sure the CD/DVD drive is set to before the harddrive

It sounds like the hard drive is dying. I had a computer do the same thing and it turned out to be the hard drive. You should still be able to access the bios though. Try hittind either delete or F1 as soon as your toshiba screen appears.

Hard drive replacement

I found the book. It was in the archived models.

There has to be a BIOS setup to detect the size of the drive. Its could be escape key f1 or f2. One of these keys should trigger it when the Toshiba screen picks up. I didn't see anything in the book about it.

There is no BIOS setup on that (or most for matter) Toshiba laptop. If you need to tell it what drive to boot from hit the F12 key when you see the Toshiba Logo then use the left and right arrow keys to pick what device you want.
