Question about Samsung HCL4715W 47" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Flashing power light

I just replaced the horizontal output transistor and unfortunately it did not fix the problem. What else could be wrong with it?

My IC801S is getting pretty hot. Also, I'm going to check with my scope. where would be a good spot to ground? Thanks

So, I just started checking the voltages. I started with the 34V and they only read 20 volts. Then in the midst of rearranging my probe I accidentally touched the ground collar on the probe to the heat sink of IC801 and it popped the fuse. Is there supposed to be live voltage on the heatsink? Anyway, I don't have any fuses for it and I will have to pick some up. Thanks for your help again.

Since I have to wait for my fuses to get in, what are some suspect parts that could be bad with power supply? I in the past I've gone through to check for shorts but I couldn't find anything unless I wasn't looking in the right spot. I've check over both the power supply board and the sub deflection board. I will be rechecking them in the mean time. Could the signal board possibly have a problem too?

So, I checked voltages and all of them were there..some of them were a volt or two under but they were all there. This time I checked with a DMM so I'm not sure if there is some AC on it but the DC voltages seemed to be there.

I also checked over the regulators that I could find before I put the boards back in and none of them seemed to be shorted.

I just unplugged each board individually and it still had the same problem

Do you have any more ideas on how I could trouble shoot this? I guess my next step that I think I will take is pulling the signal board since it is the only one I haven't checked yet and look for a shorted component. Thanks for all your help thus far!

Check for these power supplies on the Sub deflection board first on the right side of the board there are two Connectors one is a 12 Pin connector CN803 From the top of the connector the wires should read;
30V
Gnd
Gnd
-30V
8.5 V
8.5 V
Gnd
Gnd
-8.5 V
Gnd
Gnd
13.5V
Next is the connector below that one which is a 10 pin connector CN802 they should read
11.7V
11.7V
N.C
Gnd
CTL
Gnd
34V
34V
Gnd
Gnd
Next is a 14 pin connector on the top left side of the board CN801 those should read
34V
34V
Gnd
Gnd
-8.5V
Gnd
8,5V
8.5V
Gnd
13.5
NC
12.5
12.5
Check those supplies and see if they are correct or if any are missing

Pin 5 on IC801s is gnd so you can use that

yes the heatsink is live for IC801

I would check regulators and capacitors as those are the most likely components that will fail . I would say that the problem is on the Sub deflection board as that has all the operating supplies on it then the power board

Lets try to see if you may have a shorted CRT. Unplug one crt drive board at a time and try ppowering up the set with the CRT drive board off the end of one tube at a time, then reinstall that one and disconnect another if it powers up after any given drive board is off the CRT is shorted. Dont disconnect any wires just let the drive board be suspended off the CRT socket.

My tv has a strip of multicolored flashing strips going down it. They just blink and how do I fix it. Video included.

As the line is vertical, the problem is in the horizontal displacement circuitry. more importantly in the horizontal output stage. (1) blown power capacitor. (2) blown power transistors. let a technician do the check.

SONY KP-61V90 tv will not power on, red light in front,

Its 2 times blink error code that shows +B volt supply (+135 volts) is shorted, most probably horizontal output transistor is shorted, replace it.
If you are good in soldering parts in circuit board then take out horizontal transistor, check it, found shorted then replace it with same number.

Horizontal output Transistor Q502 number is 2SD2578 and available in Part Store for $10
Let me know for further query, if any.
Thanks.

I disagree with given info, this tv has no horizontal output transistor because it is dlp tv.
3 red light blink means lamp cover is not placed back properly after lamp replacement/ lamp checking. Make sure lamp cover is fixed back in its place securely and tight.

When a push the power my tv do not want turn on only hear a click noise

This usually indicate a problem with the flyback, or the horizontal output transistor. Most TV problem is not repairable by the user, because of it's complexity. If you like reading, and honestly like to learn on your own, it is not so hard to learn to fix electronic device such as TV. Unfortunately a TV is not something you can look at and figure out how it works. I would suggest start by reading electronic books, preferably the ones with projects to help you learn how electonic device are put together to make a working circuit. The most I can help you with is look for the horizontal output transistor it is square with 3 pins, and is mounted on aluminum heatsink to dissipate heat. One of its pin would be connected to the flyback and the horizontal yoke.(The yoke would be the copper winding on the neck of the tube) be careful you don't touch the thick wire from the flyback to the back of the tube because a tv tube can carry large amount of lethal charge even if not plugged in! Take that transistor out of the circuit and test it with an ohmmeter. Set the meter to "diode" with the transistor facing you. the first pin is the base. Connect the red wire to that then the black pin should read around 0.4 voltage drop it maybe a little highe on the other two pins.. If you get a reading that is low it is shorted out. Note tho that some horizontal output transistor have a resistor connected to the first, and last pin (base emmiter junction) then it gets confusing. If in doubt just replace it. The cost of a horizontal output transistor is around a few bucks. Make sure you buy two of them! If the TV turned on after you raplace it but later failed again. You have to replace the flyback too. This time use your spare transistor along with a new flyback, which cost from 20- 50 dollars. Hope this helps.

Zenith

First, locate the horizontal output transistor. This is found very close to, or next to, the horizontal output transformer (also known as the flyback). The flyback should be on an aluminum heat sink, or on the side of the metal chassis. Disconnect or unsolder two of the three legs of the transistor. Measure it with your meter, or plug in the set with the light bulb attached across the fuse.
If the transistor is shorted, or the light bulb doesn’t glow bright anymore, replace the transistor and plug back in. If the light bulb glows bright again, you must replace both the flyback and horizontal output transistor simultaneously. In some cases this will fix the set, but sometimes there are multiple problems with a set.
Go to where the flyback is, and start measuring the diodes and capacitors on the flyback itself. If you don't find any shorts there, it could be a shorted vertical output IC, a shorted sound IC, a shorted disc capacitor in the Hi Voltage/sweep circuit, or in rare cases, a shorted capacitor or tuner.Feel free to ask and post whatever the result of your troubleshooting..

Hope this may help;

Joechillin, how much TV repair experience do you have and do you own a mutimeter as well as an osilliscope? Ok first thing your going to need to do is to get a schemtic diagram. Find out with the scope, if the horizontal drive pulse is there when you turn on the set. If it is not then go back to the SMPS and check that. If it is, check the drive all the way up to the horizontal output transistor. If it is good up to there, and still no sweep power supply? Your going to most likly need to replace the flyback transformer and the horizontal output transistor and go from there. If you are there with this, great. But really man if you have no TV repair experience, we cannot teach you how to, as there are alot of factors involved. There is also alot of High Voltage inside these sets when the plug is even out of the wall. Also everything inside these sets is mounted or soldered on a printed circuit board. This set is a solid state TV and there are NO user replaceable parts inside. My friend, I would Highly recommend that you call in a trained service person to assist you with this repair. Good Luck
