I've tried several different USB cables so it definitely is a USB issue on the iPOD

  • hnrose Mar 11, 2009

PC works fine with different iPOD so not PC related issue. Also, I've already tried a different USB cable as well as same cable with different iPOD. Different USB cable with original iPOD still b0rken and same cable with different iPOD works.

Ok first thing is u have to do is get a different USB cable from some1 u know or buy a new 1 and see if its the USB thats the problem.

in the case that the USB isnt the problem then u will have to restore the ipod by putting it in to recovery mode here are the steps to do that,

1) plug iPod into comp and open iTunes.

2) next u have to press and hold the top sleep button and the bottom home button and hold for 10-15 sec after about 10 sec release the top button and continue to hold the bottom button and it will go into recovery mode then restore it on ur comp.

My iPod is not recognized by Windows (XP SP3). The message says that "the USB device attached has malfunctioned" the troubleshooter says no driver is present. I have uninstall the mass storge...

Hi,
Welcome to Fixya. The "the USB device attached has malfunctioned" is a common issue of a usb device that is connected to the computer. If you can still use the ipod properly it seems that there is something that has been detect by windows that is malfunctioning on the iPod when you connect it. There are only 3 possible reasons. First is the cable that you are using and the other one is the port on the ipod where you connect the usb cable and the 3rd is the motherboard needs to be rebooted. You can try to change the usb cable or try to use the steps below and see if you will encounter the same error.
Simply UNPLUG YOUR COMPUTER FROM THE POWER SUPPLY. Yes that's it! Note that this does not mean just turning off your computer because modern computers don't really turn off when you press the power button as the motherboard still gets power. First to explain, the motherboard is where all of hardware of the computer is connected to, including the USB ports. Sometimes the motherboard needs to be "rebooted" also because something can go wrong, i.e. all your USB ports suddenly stop working. The small microprocessor on the motherboard will reload the drivers and your USB ports should be back to recognizing all devices! So first turn off your computer using Shut Down or pressing the power button and then UNPLUG it from the wall outlet. Let it sit for about a minute and then plug it back in.
If you are using a laptop you need to remove the battery to drain the power on the motherboard. Please let me know what happen so that we can continue troubleshooting.

If you have questions please let me know. Thanks

My ipod wont shuffle anymore

How to Fix an iPod Shuffle That Won't Turn On

Things You'll Need:

* iPod Shuffle iPod USB cable Power adapter

The iPod Shuffle is the smallest member of Apple's line of MP3 players. During the device's lifetime, you may find that the iPod freezes or seems to not turn on anymore. Since the iPod Shuffle does not have a display attached to it, you cannot be notified of any device errors. However, there are several troubleshooting steps you can take to repair your iPod.

Instructions

Plug the iPod USB cable into the iPod Shuffle and then connect it to the power adapter to recharge the iPod's battery. The iPod Shuffle may not be turning on because its battery has fully drained.

Move the button on the back of the iPod Shuffle to the "off" position.

Wait five seconds with the iPod in "off" mode before switching the device back on. This process will reset the iPod Shuffle memory.

Connect the iPod Shuffle to your Mac or PC computer if it still will not turn on.

Open the iTunes program and sync your iPod with your computer. When you unplug your iPod from your computer, it should turn on normally again.

Hope it helped.

Have a nice day.

I have ipod nano 1st gen and my ipod wont detect by itunes even my explorer using USB 2.0, i have firewire port wall charger when i try to plug it it charge but idont know if it will work to computer cause...

There might be a few issues here:

1. Your ipod software needs to be updated
2. Your usb cord is bad
3. Your usb port is not working properly

Either find someone that has a firewire port and update it via itunes, or use someone elses computer to update your ipod's software.
