I use Gear 4.0 to burn CDs with Panasonic CW7502B. I get buffer underrun
too many times (almost %80 of the times). I also tried 2X, but it occurs
50%.
MY SYSTEM:
Pentium II 400 on AOpen BX6, Fireport40, Toshiba 32X EIDE, 128MB ram,.
What could be the problem?? I already wasted 9 blank CDs Would be
slow EIDE CD-ROM the problem??? and also,, when i copy the files from the
hard disk, i almost get buffer underrun

Mine has no problems with gear, Nti, or Adaptec Software. I have over runs then I upgraded my 16 speed BTC
cdrom to 24 speed panasonic and this seems to have solved the problems that I had.

Wow, a bunch of good stuff. I'll own that someday, NOT!
Arrrgh! You have a dog-suck CDROM. You may get 4x DAE from that drive
but it's spindown will make you into a coaster factory. Get a
Panasonic instead.
Almost [never] from the HD, then I'd say it's the junk Toshiba.
With a PCI SCSI card, it is unnecessary to avoid your machine.
However, finding the DMA setting for all your HD's and CDROM's could
be very helpful. Do not install the floppy that came with your mobo
unless it is a "Triones" disk.
There are many performance tips websites around. Here's my list
*Typical role: Network server
*Cdrom Supplemental cache: Small
*Virtual Memory Minimum: 100MB (any size
*AutoInsertNotification: OFF on all CD units. Easy CD Creator may not
like this.
*[x]DMA turned on if you have an Intel chipped mobo and Win95B,
otherwise get Triones. VIA and SIS buy new mobo
*For Intel chips, SETUPEX from
#, do not
install supplied disks or mobo company drivers.
*SYSTEM.INI
[vcache]
MinFileCache=8192
MaxFileCache=8192
If you still have problems, consider
*Installing an ASPI update from #
*Turning off Sync mode for SCSI products
*Turn off hard drive power down
*Disable Power Mgt in BIOS
*Disable Power Mgt in Win95
*Putting the CD writer on it's own IDE cable.
*Switching to Easy CD Creator or NTI CD Maker
--
-CJS
*The best and most defect free CDRW IDE CDROMs for DAE are the Panasonic 24x CR585/7B and 32x CR586/8B
*The best SCSI CDROMs for DAE are the Plextor 12, 12/20, and 14/32
*Most IDE drives do DAE poorly, most SCSI drives do DAE well
*If you're looking for IDE, you must get the right one and avoid the rest
*The best DAE software is WinDAC at #
*IDE Bus Mastering (BM) works best with Intel chips on Win95B or with Triones

Your machine is almost twice as good as mine...
I think the problem is because u still continue to work at ur machine during
the burning process..
Try leaving ur machine unused during the write
And remember to turn off stuff like System Scheduler etc..
